[INFOBUS] Sex & relationships

It's time for another fantastic Infobus*. This month we're excited to be talking all things relationships & sex. In particular we'll be exploring dating & relationships in the digital age, negotiating boundaries: condoms, contraception, sexual rights and responsibilities.

 tinder

We’ll be joined by @Fox ring and @rose1234 who are part of the YEP Crew! YEP crew are a group of young people in WA who’ve come together to promote sexual health and positive relationships among their peers. They aim to address the issue of sexual health, relationships and blood-borne viruses (BBVs) in the community by actively engaging with young people (online & through outreach events) and encouraging them to make safer and informed choices.

@rose1234 says: "My name is Poppy, I am in my second year studying a double arts major in Gender Studies and Anthropology. I love going to see a good band, taking my dog to the beach and travelling."

@fox ring says: "My name is Brix, and I am studying Community Development and Politics & International Studies at Murdoch. When I am not studying I am doing volunteer work, being a nerd, or procrastinating"

You can learn more about YEP Crew from the Facebook page.http://www.facebook.com/yepcrew

If you have a question in the lead up to the discussion that you'd like to ask anonymously, submit it here and we'll do our best to answer it during the discussion!

On Thursday 26th March we'll kick off at 6pm WST/9pm AEDT! Join us then to have your say.

*Infobus sessions are 90 minute discussions here on the forums where we invite professionals to join us to talk about some of the tougher issues facing young people. It's the place to have a frank and open discussion with a group of other young people as well as a psychologist, counsellor, youth worker, peer educator or another specialist worker.

Re: [INFOBUS] Sex & relationships

Hi guys!

Welcome to tonight's Infobus, where we'll be talking about sex & relationships - because it can be confusioning and stressful sometimes, as well as fun! It can sometimes be a bit awkward to talk about sex or ask questions, so this is the perfect opportunity to learn a bit more about all that stuff. We're lucky tonight to have @Fox ring and @rose1234 from YEP crew to help us out (more about them in the post above!)

Tonight we'll be talking about dating in the age of Tinder and smart phones, boundaries in relationships, condoms and contraception and everyting else to do with your sexual rights and responsibilities...

As always, remember to keep the discussion within the guidelines, and if you need to talk to someone one-on-one, click the 'emergency help & info' link here, or up the top right of this page.

Let's get started! I'll throw it over to YEP crew to ask the first question!! Go @Fox ring and @rose1234 !!!!

Re: [INFOBUS] Sex & relationships

Hey everyone, my name is Brix, so I will start off with the first question Smiley Happy

Technology is a part of all our relationships, romantic or otherwise. Is technology an important part of your relationships and if so, how? Does technology (like texting, dating apps and Facebook) make relationships better or more does it make them more complicated?

Re: [INFOBUS] Sex & relationships

Hey!

Re: [INFOBUS] Sex & relationships

Hey Brix & hi everyone else! Don't be shy!

Technology is definitely a part of all of my relationships.... I think it can defintiely make things easier when people you care about live far away! But I also see how social media can add new dimensions to relationships (like knowing too much/being able to find out too much about others!)

Re: [INFOBUS] Sex & relationships

I definitely think it's quicker to communicate! Do you think online dating is safe though?

YAY! Thanks for joining in!

Re: [INFOBUS] Sex & relationships

Hey j95!! What do you think?

Re: [INFOBUS] Sex & relationships

Hey @rose1234 !! I don't think that online dating is necessarily more dangerous, but it's different so we need to take different precautions and look out for certain risks...
