Facebook Live and Ask a Pro Live Chat with Career Trackers for NAIDOC Week 2019

This NAIDOC week, ReachOut Australia is partnering with Indigenous Internship Program Career Trackers to host a Facebook Live event to discuss what this year's theme of "Voice. Treaty. Truth" means to three young Aboriginal leaders, and why it is important to young people. EY, as partners of both ReachOut and Career Trackers, are generously supporting this event.

When?

We will be chatting live on Facebook from 6pm Monday July 8th and then continuing the conversation on the forums for our Ask a Pro Live event (aka: Infobus!)

Through our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, ReachOut had a goal to explore opportunities to partner with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to support NAIDOC Week activities. After attending the Career Trackers Gala Ball to support our intern Angel, we recognised that Career Trackers has a network of young Indigenous leaders and that there were opportunities to amplify their voice online, to educate both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

Who's on the panel:

• Bianca Hunt: Indigenous Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator, Career Trackers Alumni (see a video we filmed with Bianca here)
• Angel Armstrong: CareerTrackers Intern with ReachOut
• Ganur Maynard: Career Trackers intern with King & Wood Mallesons, Westpac and Herbert Smith Freehills

Tonight we'll be hosting a Facebook Live Panel discussion in collaboration with CareerTrackers at 6pm on the RO Facebook page! We'll be exploring what this year's NAIDOC Week theme - Voice. Treaty. Truth.- means to 3 young Aboriginal leaders!

Hello everyone and a warm welcome to our special guests tonight, Bianca, Angel and Ganur who are staying online after the Facebook Live Event to talk to our forums community! 

Before we start, get to know our panel:

• Bianca Hunt: Indigenous Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator at SBS, 2018 Co-CEO at AIME, and a Career Trackers Alumni. Bianca has a passion to work with and bring as many young First Nations voices to the world stage.
  
• Angel Armstrong: fourth year Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) student and CareerTrackers Intern at ReachOut. Angel has her sights set on empowering young people by using her Psychology degree to work in juvenile correctional services.
  
• Ganur Maynard: Apprentice of the Year - 2019 NAIDOC Awards, Worimi Aboriginal Land Council member and CareerTrackers intern. Ganur intends to use his professional law career to protect native title and work in property and litigation.

Each of our panelists have shared their personal experiences and perspectives on this year’s NAIDOC week theme: Voice, Treaty, Truth. Shortly, we will be continuing the conversation in the forums community to answer some of the questions you submitted for our panelists over the last week!

@WheresMySquishy @ecla34 I particularly enjoyed that a common theme they spoke about was education and taking it into our own hands to find our own truth/educate ourselves! 

As a young Indigenous woman I'm still educating myself on my culture everyday! I think we should get the ATSI thread going a bit more with things we learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture! <3
