Letting the negative self talk go
Yesterday I wrote a post saying how I struggle with saying a lot of negative things to myself and I got a lot of helpful suggestions.
Sometimes challenging my inner bully can be almost impossible, especially in the moment when i'm angry or upset at myself. But there is alternative, recognising that the inner bully is there and giving myself space to recognise it, accept and let it pass.
Have a look at this link where @Kaz-RO explains a bit more of the process.
@Ben-RO suggested that I make a thread so that a few us can work on this together, I know that I find doing things with other people a lot easier.
Hopefully some of you want to work on this too and we'll use this thread to talk about how we're all going with it and post some updates!
Thanks guys for making a post about this. I think it is very relevant for us to question the negative thoughts in our mind and replace them with positive ones. This can sometimes be difficult, however talking to people and meditation are helpful tools.
Side note, this is a great community! I love how everyone wants to help out and suggest new things. Good work team 🙂
Obv. too late to organise properly for tonight but I'm doing one at 5:45pm AEST today if anyone's around.
Edit: Ooooor not since I can't even get the app working lol goodstuff.
Doubleedit: Ok, if you're going to do this make sure you update the app to the latest version. It has a completely different layout and it doesn't look like progress has been retained between versions.
Who's up for tomorrow 5:30pm?
Oh ok @N1ghtW1ng I'm not sure then. For me it's easier to stick to something if it's a routine rather than "do it sometime that day."
Time of day doesn't matter heaps, although doing it close to the time you go to sleep will help you sleep better and there's a fair bit of evidence to suggest that it helps you sleep better no matter when you do it.
Other than that, the only reason to do it at the same time each day (that i know of) is to help you form a habit of it as @Bay52VU said. The biggest benefits of mindfulness, meditation and stuff like come from doing it pretty regularly.
Do you folks want to organise a session some time today? I will do my absolute best to tag along!
I think if it's going to be a group thing then it's about making a time/s that works for as many people who want to do it as possible. So if that's a combination of Monday morning, Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning and arvo etc. then whatever works as long as it's communicated/scheduled in advance and isn't super confusing 😛
Hey @Creativegirl12! Sorry I have been really slack with this thread! I'd love to get back into it and I've noticed that i haven't felt half as good since i stopped doing this daily with you all!
Can some of you help me run this session every day or two?
@Creativegirl12 @j95 @Bay52VU@DruidChild? Anyone else?
I must confess that i found the Daily Mindfulness one a bit repetitive so i ended up doing the first one in that series about walking instead. I have felt pretty busy and perhaps i am a little over caffeinated so i found sitting still quite hard to do, but focusing on my walking and foot steps was really easy. I'm going to do that one again for the next few days i think.
How'd you go @Bay52VU?
