Letting the negative self talk go

Yesterday I wrote a post saying how I struggle with saying a lot of negative things to myself and I got a lot of helpful suggestions.

Sometimes challenging my inner bully can be almost impossible, especially in the moment when i'm angry or upset at myself. But there is alternative, recognising that the inner bully is there and giving myself space to recognise it, accept and let it pass.

Have a look at this link where @Kaz-RO explains a bit more of the process

@Ben-RO suggested that I make a thread so that a few us can work on this together, I know that I find doing things with other people a lot easier.

Hopefully some of you want to work on this too and we'll use this thread to talk about how we're all going with it and post some updates!

I totally reckon that going to your headspace appt sounds like a good idea @j95 .

I'd be happy with 6 so that I'm not late. Also can we make sure we do one that's more than 1min long?

Actually I'm not sure @Ben-RO i have my headspace appointment it depends if I go or not, 6 would work better for me in that case

@Ben-RO it's not that I didn't notice emotions before, Hayley is an emotional singer. I tend to naturally focus my attention on lyrics as opposed to instruments, this time I focused more on the instruments

Sorry to jump in but reading all these posts makes me feel quite frustrated with myself. It's great to see how mindfulness sessions help a lot of you, but personally I've had very little success with it. I feel like there's such a massive push by everyone towards mindfulness and it's supposed benefits at the moment but it just doesn't do anything for me (if anything it only makes me feel worse). I feel like some sort of defective human when I see it helping everyone else and not me haha. Sorry for being a negative nancy - I'm not even sure why I'm writing this. Carry on...

@lokifish fair enough! I don't think you're defective, it just isn't for everybody. Pretty much nothing is! It can also depend on the age or stage you are in during life too. I used to hate it and it didn't make me feel worse, now i do it pretty much every day. In 5 years time i might have completely forgotten about it!

It's definitely a bit of a fad at the moment though, but it's proven to be at least a little bit effective for a lot of people.

Is there something else that helps you?

Whoa, well that was a quick one! What did you think @FootyFan26?

How did you feel before, how do you feel now? What was the MOST distracting thing and how did you deal with it?

FootyFan26
FootyFan26Posted 14-06-2016 06:00 PM

I felt shit before and still feel pretty low now although it'slessened a bit.  I found that meditation is only temporary though so it'll probably come back.

Most distracting thing was that I felt like I was shaking but I'm not sure if it was me doing it or something else and I couldn't really deal with it because I don't know what was causing it.

You?
