Did you mean:

It’s a bad day, not a bad life.

Hey everyone,

So I have been seeing this statement around a lot lately: “it’s a bad day, not a bad life” and I’m trying really hard to hold onto it. I’ve had a really tough day today. My physical and mental health took a sudden dip that left me worrying that my depression has got the best of me.

How I handled this situation:

1. Spoke to my partner

2. Took a day off uni

3. Hot shower

4. Stretches and meditation

5. Did a few activities I enjoyed.

6. Avoided comfort food that I knew would make me sick.

Even with all this though, it is still really hard to not think I’m spiralling. And this is why I’m trying to tell myself it’s just one bad day.

So my question is, does anyone else have a bad day and get really worried about their overall mental health? What kind of self-talk/expressions do you use to get yourself through tough days?

Re: It’s a bad day, not a bad life.

Hi @Libellule,

I think what you have described is something that a lot of members here can relate to, I know I definitely can Heart Those days are really tough and a time where you may need a bit more TLC.

I really love that you mentioned you recognised how you were feeling and you have taken some steps to focus on you wellbeing more that day. I always find this a helpful thing to do.

I'm just going to tag a few more people here who might be able to provide more of their insights into how they manage difficult days. I know that @Bee @N1ghtW1ng @scared01 and @litgym were all involved in a recent GR about Dealing with Bad Days here Smiley Happy

Re: It’s a bad day, not a bad life.

Hi @Libellule

That quote is so amazing, its really grounding and hopeful so thanks for sharing Heart If you're looking for a saying that always gets me through tough times its that there are always better days ahead. And I guess what that reminds me is that the better day may not be tomorrow or next week but it is definitely there and it will definitely come so theres always something good to look forward to.

Your ability to prioritise self care is super inspiring and you should be really proud of yourself. Not many people would have responded as proactively as you so thats a real testament to your resilience and strength Heart The thing that pushes me through the rough times, which kind of goes hand in hand with my quote is knowing that mental health is a journey, theres always going to be good days and bad days but theres always good amongst the bad. So just keep using that self care tool kit of yours and trust in yourself that there are better days ahead, you're a super awesome human Heart

Re: It’s a bad day, not a bad life.

Hi all,

I would like to thank you all for your kind words. I really like this idea that it takes time to get better.

@seadreamer your words were touching thank you. I think you're right about trying to remember that things won't be hard everyday. Sometimes in the fog of a bad day, I feel like I won't get better again. Reminding myself that my mental health will take dips every now and then even when I'm on the whole doing well.

Re: It’s a bad day, not a bad life.

@Libellule I really like the quote/saying "It's a bad day, not a bad life"
You've done really well by speaking to your partner and doing the other various activities you managed through the day. For me I find bad days is certainly when I need to so more self-care and be kinder to myself.

Remember you're amazing just as you are Heart
