Dog training stress

Hello everyone, I’m back on here, and I’ll only post on here when I feel I can post in a way that won’t go outside the guidelines, but tonight, I’m under a crapload of stress regarding my dog when I take her on a walk after dinner, and right now, no matter how many bloody times I pull on her leash, she just will not stay beside me yet. I’m kind of having a hard time here. If @Maddy-RO or anyone else is around, I kind of need a shoulder to cry on, because I know it’s OK to feel this way, but at the same time, I don’t want to put myself down and beat myself up for this, because when my dad told me to walk a little slower and not let my dog get ahead of me, I don’t know why, somehow I get this sinking feeling inside me. 😢😭💔

Re: Dog training stress

Hi @Matty D.

Stubborn animals can be really stressful...

I don't know if you're looking for any training ideas or just support, but I'll be online for a while if you need anything.

Re: Dog training stress

Hey there @Matty D,

It's great that you're being aware of the guidelines when you're posting Smiley Happy

Training a dog is definitely a difficult task, and you are more than welcome to use RO as a shoulder to cry on. Sometimes just venting about the stress we're under can be a great way of relieving some of that stress, especially when we already know what we're feeling is okay.

It sounds like the advice your dad offered wasn't that helpful, is that right? If you are looking for dog training tips, there might be some good resources online that you could try. What do you think?

Good luck with the training! Smiley Happy

Re: Dog training stress

Well, it’s not that it wasn’t helpful, it’s just that my dog hasn’t fully learnt how to stay directly by my side yet when I walk her, that’s what bugs me a bit, but even so, I really don’t want to lose my cool or get cross with her. And about the training tips online, I’ll see which ones catch my eye.

Re: Dog training stress

Hi @Matty D,

It sounds like you have been very patient with training her. How old is your dog MattyD? Is walking something you enjoy doing together?

We would love to hear how you go with the online training tips and if there are any ones that catch your eye Smiley Happy

Re: Dog training stress

She's called Stella, she's nearly 2, and a Lagotto Romagnolo (not sure if you've heard of that breed before, because it's not very well known). And yes, I thoroughly enjoy taking her on walks, and I sure hope I didn't breach the guidelines by giving out all that info because one of them says to stay anonymous, and when I got home, she peed all over the damn floor in the loungeroom, and I found some tips on WikiHow last night, but I just browsed through them randomly because not all of them might work for me.

Re: Dog training stress

Hi @Matty D

That's great that you're sticking with the guidelines! You didn't breach it by saying your dog's breed so all good. That sounds really tough, my puppy was hard to potty train too!

Re: Dog training stress

Well, my dog Stella (a Lagotto Ramagnolo, not sure if you've heard of a breed like that - they're not well known), is almost 2 now, so I say thank God for that, 'cos if you ask me, I reckon grown-up dogs are easier to train than puppies, because at that young age, they know almost nothing, and not to complain, be too angry here, or lose patience with her, but... she just bloody peed on the rug in the hallway again because of her anxiety and nerves.
