OCD with dog fur

Hi its been very tough for me this year as im now dignosed with OCD and high Depression. Ive had my dogs for now 3 years and never have had this probblem before with the fur! Im always vaccuming, cleaning and if i see more fur i just ball my eyes out because i just cant handle it on me or around me. But its now got more intense i can not eat in our house as the fur gets into my food even if i clean the house down it still ends up in it. I love and need my dogs but its just the fur that is a big strugle for me. Doctors are worryied about my health due to that i cant eat any thing that is cooked (due to the fur)  so im having to starve or eat takeway. I dont want to give away my dogs as i love them and i do need them as they help me feel not alone. I just feel so embarssed. Also my dogs are indoor dogs because they are both very anxious dogs so they wont go outside unless you are out their with them if that makes sence. I just need somone to understand me and not judge me, but just someone to listen and to say they care about what im going through. As its so hard and so lonley as not many people can help this or even understand.  thankyou for reading and understanding.   ( and sorry about my spelling i also have a learning disability which is also a big pain to me too) thanks 🙂

hey sezzalovesmj,

would it work to shave the dofs? My nanna used to clipper her dog because she was allergic to his hair and she claimed that shaving him worked a treat. She literally just shaved him with a set of men's hair clippers. he looked hilarious but she swore it meant there was no hair in the house.

Let us know how you go. 🙂

Hi sezzalovesmj,

Welcome to the ReachOut forums. Smiley Happy

I'm sorry to hear that your OCD issues with dog fur are making life stressful for you. I'm a dog lover, so I  understand what great companions they are, and why you want to keep them with you, even though the fur is stressing you out.

You will definitely find people on the ReachOut forums who have experience dealing with OCD and depression, so this is a great place to get online support! There are also some tips on managing  OCD in this OCD Factsheet.

Do you have a friend or counsellor you can talk to? Otherwise there are a couple of phone lines you can call to speak to someone, like eheadspace (1800 650 890).

Best of luck to you and your doggies!

Hi sezzalovesmj,

Welcome to Reach out.

I also have a dog who sheds a lot. I make sure I vacuum weekly and keep him clean and well groomed. There are these really amazing brushes you can buy which minimizes the shedding by a HEAP. They are called "furnimator". They are quite expensive, but are honestly worth every cent, they decrease the hair loss by heaps especially if you brush them every day!

Maybe you could also keep the dogs out of your kitchen so you can eat in there - only allow them to be in certain rooms? At least then you can eat in the house.

I'd really recommend you keep talking to your doctor and work on finding a solution which suits you and your dogs!

MM.
