Re: [CHAT] Coping with illness

Unfortunately, life doesn’t stop when we get sick. What are some ways of coping with illness while trying to deal with other parts of your life?

I'm lucky I don't have school uni or work, So its a bit easier for me.

Re: [CHAT] Coping with illness

@N1ghtW1ng good point, i think letting people know you are unwell helps alot, and not taking on too much responsibility. Also knowing when to take time for yourself and trying not to feel guilty that you are sick

Yes, unfortunately not. Coping with 'life commitments' while sick is something I really struggle with (because of difficulties managing the anxiety that I experience secondary to being sick). As a result I'm not really too sure on good ways to cope... I generally try to limit commitments if I can, let people know that I'm struggling and try to be kind to myself. I also make sure that I keep trying to do things to make me well again (e.g. going to the doctor, keeping up with healthy eating, taking any required medication etc...).

Snap @SJG! You pretty much summed up exactly what I was trying to say!

I'm really struggling with this at the moment. But I guess the main thing is to never exhert yourself so that you crash harder than what you have already have. It'll just make recovery twice as long.

My entire life can be described in one sentence: It didn't go as planned and that's okay. ツ

Re: [CHAT] Coping with illness

Great point @stonepixie i recently tried to get back into things too early after being sick then then it became a chest infection so that didnt help at all! So now ill always be sure to make get fully recovered before getting stuff into life again

Good to see that you're all so supportive of the people around you Smiley Happy

Illness doesn’t always mean the occasional cold or flu, but also the problem of chronic illness. Have you ever been affected by chronic illness (in yourself or someone close to you) and how did it effect you if you have?

My dad has an acquired brain injury. It makes life very difficult for him, but he still has a smile on his face. My dad is my hero.
I also have a chronic illness that will one day kill me (atm it doesn't affect me but as I get older it will get worse)
Also mental illness can be like a chronic illness, it's something I battle with daily.

Re: [CHAT] Coping with illness

Well i have coeliacs disease and im also dairy intolerant, not sure if that classifies as chronic illness but it is difficult, i have a very stict diet now and most i just stick to the positives like how it forces me to have a healthy diet. But it is very expenisve to keep up with my diet and as a student i do struggle with that.
