Re: [CHAT]: Physical health and exercise

Sorry to hear you weren't well earlier this year @roseisnotaplant. You've shown great awareness in being able to see how it impacted your mental health though!

Re: [CHAT]: Physical health and exercise

Next question!

What are some enablers and barriers to maintaining good physical health?

Re: [CHAT]: Physical health and exercise

For me, a big enabler is the fact that my legs are pretty much doing what they should be again. Also, there's a treadmill in my house, so that makes it easier to exercise when I can't be bothered going anywhere. A healthy diet is another enabler of physical health, I think. I know that if I've eaten well, I feel better, and if I've exercised I feel more inclined to eat healthier

Barriers are a lack of motivation to exercise or eat healthy. Another barrier could be the cost of health care. I think in general we're pretty lucky in this country to have stuff like Medicare, but medication etc. can still be pretty expensive, making physical health more difficult to maintain.

Diet, between what is easy and what is healthy.

Re: [CHAT]: Physical health and exercise

5. What are some enablers and barriers of maintaining good physical health?

Income

Low income - Can't pay rego fees for sports clubs or get lessons

High income - Could enable someone to have regular coaching, more, likely for person to develop into elite sportsperson

Education

Schools that don't teach PE means that students may learn movement skills and or have the knowledge of the benefits of good physical activity

Learning PE can give students the knowledge of the importance of physical activity and the benefits it has.

Family

Playing sport with siblings

Having guardians that don't value the importance of physical activity

Access to facilities

Workplace with onsite gym or park nearby

Living in an apartment means that there's not much space for activity

Weather

Wet weather is slippery and dangerous

Mild sunny days where there is light and it is dry

Re: [CHAT]: Physical health and exercise

Second last question:

How can you incorporate physical activity into your everyday routine if you're not a very active person? Similarly, what is your favourite way to improve your physical health?
