Re: [CHAT] We are Young...Let's Set the World on Fire

Again it depends on the situation I think, because some people cannot afford to be selfish. I know I am more selfish now than when I was a teen because I had to think of my sister etc.

So alot of us seem to think that having less responsibility and being able to be selfish are some great things about youth but what about previous generations..

What does it mean to be a young person in this day and age in comparison to previous generations?

There is a lot more freedom.

So true @_sagira_ we have a free education, gender equality (for the most part) and so many oportunities, especially when it come to travel. I know my grandparents generation think its amazing that i have travelled alone multiple times os. But i think thats just ebcuase they didnt have the opportunity

Well, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I actually think there is more pressure on young people these days what with social media (e.g. peer pressure to look a certain way), the culture of underage binge drinking and all the pressure on teenagers and school leavers re: picking subjects, getting a certain exit score, going to uni etc... I also think that we have more freedom though, I think lots more people go on gap years now and spend more time trying things out before moving into a career and having a family which is nice. So I suppose there is less pressure that way.

In comparison to previous generations, I think that being a young person today may be that there is a lot more pressure points out there. This isn't to day that previous generations didn't experience any great worries or stressful things, but these pressure points may have been very different.

@SJG exactly! I was going to elaborate, but felt like I didn't need to because that statement honestly speaks for itself.

Re: [CHAT] We are Young...Let's Set the World on Fire

As a young person we are exposed to a lot of technology. Watching TV, listening to music, texting on the phone, and surfing the Internet to watch videos, listen to music and socialise online. So there's always something to do and you're never bored. I guess a problem for some young people would be getting away from technology so they can enjoy the outside world.

To me, it means that I'm not pressured to have a family young, I'm not pressured into following religion, we have less childhood diseases, we have access to so much technology which makes life so much easier, but at the same time, I think relationships have gotten a lot harder as sometimes it is less physical and more virtual and there are more douche ways of breaking up with someone.

My entire life can be described in one sentence: It didn't go as planned and that's okay. ツ

Re: [CHAT] We are Young...Let's Set the World on Fire

Hmmm...true regarding the pressures and stressors.

Although I do think for a large extent that that's always been a factor.  I mean if you look back at each era, everyone looks a certain way and was expected to act a certain role as well.  I just don't think it was vocally voiced as much as it is today...because of the freedom that we do have.
