Re: GR - Life After Year 12 Exams - Oct 22

2. For those who are studying exams, what are your plans like for the future? How do you feel about finishing high school?

I remember feeling scared and anxious about life after high school, it was like at school it was predictable you went to class did work and went home. But after high school you were considered an adult and had to make all these big decisions regarding your future.

I often see the following quote (from memory) on the internet and it really does sum up what is expected of us in our final year of high school: up until minutes ago we were expecting Year 12's to ask to use the bathroom, now we are expecting them to make decisions regarding their future.

Whatever it takes I know I can make it through!

@N1ghtW1ng I'm going to continue studying for the next couple of years in (probably) a masters of communications, but I'm done with formal study of philosophy for now. Could totally see myself going back to something in academia once I've done a while in the world though.

I rememeber when I was at this stage in year 12 I was nervous about finishing high school and having to venture out into the world (seemed so scary!) and also sad about having to part with all my friends as noone was going to my university.

But looking back now it really was so much more fun and exciting than scary, and I've made sooo many more new friends after high school! Smiley Happy

@N1ghtW1ng I have to learn the about the whole field broadly, but I definitely plan on specialising in mental health Smiley Happy

Wanting to make a positive impact in someone's life is such a good want @litgym Smiley Happy

Re: GR - Life After Year 12 Exams - Oct 22

yeah Smiley Happy @Birdeye I know its hard to turn someones life around when they're dealing with so much, so if I could at least somehow make a positive impact in their life, ill be more than happy !

Re: GR - Life After Year 12 Exams - Oct 22

Welcome @litgym! That sounds like an awesome goal, you'll make an excellent addition in the mental health sector! Smiley Very Happy Also, who cares about studying? Smiley Very Happy Smiley Very Happy It can be quite a change when high school finishes, I managed to put off the transition with going to an overseas school for a year but for some, it's like... now what? But it's possible Smiley Happy

@Birdeye so much study!

@ErinsAntics @Puppies026 it can be so exciting and scary to have so much responsibility and expectations thrust onto us! But we're still kicking Smiley Wink I agree about the friends part though, school was how I hung out with a lot of my friends so losing... loosing? that sucked but oh well. To the future!

I remember when I was heading towards the end that I was just extremely interested in where everyone was going to end up and what everyone else wanted to do. In part because I was very hopeful that I'd end up at the same uni as someone I knew. (turns out most people didn't stick with where they were going to go or originally did go. I can count the people I know who stuck with what they accepted on one hand with fingers left over!)

Otherwise, ending school seemed unreal because it was what so much of my focus had been on for my life.

Re: GR - Life After Year 12 Exams - Oct 22

Seems we're all feeling or felt the same towards the end of year 12!

Here's the next question:

3. Did your exam marks affect what you ended up studying? Are you liking what you are currently doing?

Re: GR - Life After Year 12 Exams - Oct 22

1. When you were in high school what did you want to do? Or if you still are in high school, what do you want to do?

I really had no idea what I wanted to do (and still, i'm not certain). I just did basically one of each type of subject as I didn't have a preference. In the end, I picked a science type degree at Uni and yet I did no science in high school.

2. For those who are studying exams, what are your plans like for the future? How do you feel about finishing high school?

I'm not studying for high school exams, but I just want everyone that is to know that they really aren't the be all and end all. These days, your marks mean almost nothing and there are always ways to get into courses and things you like.

3. Did your exam marks affect what you ended up studying? Are you liking what you are currently doing?

Hahaha nope! I never cared about my exam marks. I am under the firm belief that no matter what mark you get, you can ALWAYS get the career you want. (A little louder, MARKS DON'T MATTER! THERE'S LITERALLY ALWAYS ANOTHER WAY!!!!) Do I like what I currently do? Yes and no. But that's for another time... (I'm studying teaching. I love teaching, I hate theoretical crap)

Also for question 2, I don't remember what it is... I'll get there.
