5. when we try to analyse a "failure" to learn from it, its hard to look objectively since we are emotionally invested in our own situation. is it possible to 'put yourself in someone elses shoes' to learn from it??
Absolutley it is hard. Immediately folluwing a failure, especially if you have a large investment, it can be really hard to step back and look at a situation objectively. Being able to empathize can definitely take time in my opinion - the greater the mental distance between now and the failure, the easier it is to put yourself in someone elses shoes

Oops - accidental pressed post early.I think this because...
Well, I'm going to use this stealing scenario again. While I knew I had done wrong and messed up, while facing the consequences I couldn't help but think, I wouldn't want this happening to me. if I was a small business owner I would be pretty damn angry if a employee took things, someone who was supposed to be trusted.

@j95 I hear you man. The fact that you felt like a terrible person tells me that you aren't one. It sounds like you've learnt your lesson, so don't be too hard on yourself. We all make mistakes, sometimes we even make the same mistake a couple of times! Recently I made a couple of pretty serious mistakes and then made them again, so trust me, you aren't a bad person for making a mistake that you've learnt from and feel bad about. Keep your head up man

thats interesting @Ben-RO, because I have made some horrendous meals in my life but I never even thought of them as failures... I reserve 'failure' for some of the really big things I think

Hmm, this question is tricky, while i think you can learn from failures, sometimes it's tricky to change your point of view and think about the positives!
Cooking is the biggest thing for me. I can make some pretty tasty food these days, but it took a LOT of burned an inedible stuff to get there.

@Ben-RO I'm sure a lot of professional chefs have had similar experiences, just goes to show you have to have a lot of practice, and make mistakes to learn how to cook great food 😛
My big one would have to be laundry, i made the mistake of mixing whites with colours and after three pink (use-to-be-white) shirts i've learn my lesson and now know how to master the art of laundry

Good evening fellow RO members!
Tonight we will be talking about failure, what we know about it and how we feel about the issue! How do you feel about failure?
The session will be facilitated by @jvkn, @Ben-RO, and myself!
Please remember to have a look at the community guidelines if you haven’t already! If you feel like you need to talk to someone at any time, you can check out the emergency help resources.

Success for me is the feeling of completion or achievement and it can be really small or really big. I feel like sometimes success can be shared or you can be the only one that sees that event as a success.I don't think failure is the opposite of success because in my opinion you can learn more from failure than success and I feel like the lessons learnt from failure stick more than any others I've learnt.
Saying that, people can also say you've failed when you actually haven't and that has taught me some pretty bad habits.

@tsnyder absolutely everything in life is about growth for me. All the negatives the way I look at it is how has it helped me grow? and if it has helped me in someway then SUCCESS!!!**Believe in the power of you because you are your own hero**

yeah I agree @FootyFan26, success can be individual or it can be shared!
What do you mean by 'bad habits'? Sometimes people feel they have the right to tell you when you have failed, i agree!!

It can be hard to talk about failures without talking about success so here’s our first Question:
How do you define success? Do you think success is the opposite of failure?
