@Ben-RO great list! Sleep well 🙂
@Stealth_ninja I'm intrigued about what questions you ask yourself that help. Would you mind sharing them?

@Stealth_ninja I tried putting my head in cold water as part of TIP once; I couldn't physically deal with water up my nose. So an alternative is putting a heap of ice cubes on your face

@j95 great question!Alternatives to venting:
Writing it down instead of saying it.
Writing your thoughts into a song.
Singing a song that displays some of the emotion you're feeling.
Going for a walk.

Thanks for sharing that with us @loves netball, we don't want to have anything on the forums that makes you upset so hopefully we can find a way of making sure you're most supported. I'm sorry that what we are discussing is upsetting you. I definitely didnt mean to offend you in any way I just felt your feedback is valuable here on the forums thats why I asked. I hope you feel better soon

I think that it can take a little while for us to get the hang of knowing what we need and also it can be tricky in the heat of the moment to know what you need to feel a bit better. Perhaps part of that solution is planning ahead a bit. We could for example have threads where we write down how we want to be supported, what might be unhelpful and what works great?

Time for next question....How can we make threads for support in a healthy way?
I think @Ben-RO already touched on this a little.

Yeah i think having new threads is like a gate, you can chose to go past it and read, and you can sort of see what it might be about, but you can go chill somewhere else if you want too as well- Mark as New

Well if you want me to answer that question @Ben-RO may get a MASSIVE lecture from me!
I just prefer to stay off threads that involve endless venting until I can handle it now

@FootyFan26 Awesome intro post, thanks for kicking this off.
Our first question of the night is...
What is venting and/or ruminating? Is it a good or bad thing?

Venting is when you express what you're feeling and pretty much just commincate what's in your head. it's kinda hard to explain. I think it's a good thing for clearing a bit of space but you also have to work on fixing what's causing you to feel like that because then the thoughts will just come back again and the process will be repeated.

I think it is healthy to get things of your chest if you need to, and writing stuff down/saying it out load can be a good way to process things. I I think venting can sometimes be a bit much though, especially if you're on the recieving end. I think there's a balance.

When I think of venting, I think of someone getting alllllll their negative emotions out in mostly a verbal way. I think of rumination as thinking the same thing over and over again, focusing on the negative. I'm guessing this can sometimes be done in a postive way, but from my experiences and including here on RO, it's mostly been negative and I think it can make the situation worse, until we go do something else. In my case, that something else is usually exercise!!!
Ps @Ben-RO I did finish reading that journal article, although I got the message as soon as I saw the name Sigmund Freud

Venting is just like letting things out that may of been built up inside our minds. Ruminating is sort of like continuing to go over those thoughts and been almost unable to think of anything else but the bad thoughts 😞
I guess its good in a way because it helps us let it go of pent up thoughts and frustration, but ruminating isn't so good.

How many of us feel better after we vent? How many of us feel worse? And would we still do it if we knew it got harder to stop doing every time we do it?

@Ben-RO I always feel worse, and I also feel really bad being around people who are venting to the point that I run off and cry and hide and now SH
