[Chat] Motivation and goals
originally posted on 16-03-2017 9:24 PM
Motivation! What is it good for?
Well actually motivation and goal setting is really important! Without it we had have no direction in life, no idea of where to go or what we want to achieve. If we don't set motivating goals then we end up aimlessly walking around questioning why we aren't getting anywhere.
But how do we go about setting these goals? Join us on Monday the 20th March at 8pm AEDT to find out, or click Reply to start the conversation now!
Ray, when you're on the Titanic, you load the lifeboats. You don't stop to yell at the iceberg.

Next Question!
Do you think inspiration is the same as motivation and can be harnessed in the same way?

@roseisnotaplant HAHAHAHAHAHA great minds think alike 😉

I have just been hit by the tsunami of tiredness so I'm going to bid you all a very fond farewell. Thanks for the great chat!

Well, firstly;
And secondly, I think that inspiration and motivation can be similar, but aren't totally the same thing? Motivation is like, 'Yeah, go do the thing!' Whereas inspiration is more like, 'Wow, it would be cool if I did the thing.' Does that make sense?

I think they are similar. It helps to be inspired in order to be motivated. Therefore I think inspiration is the driving point, but motivation is the actual doing.
It's harder to be forced into inspiration. Eg, being chased by a bear doesn't inspire me to run, but it does motivate me.

That totally makes sense @Alison5, that's an awesome way of putting it 😄

I think inspiration is coming up with the initial idea of doing something, and motivation is what helps us put the idea into practice 🙂 I suppose they can both be harnessed in similar ways too

that is one terrifying meme (the bear one) @lokifish 😧Do you think inspiration is the same as motivation and can be harnessed in the same way?
I think they are pretty much interchangeable. I'm not convinced you can have one without the other. Whenever something inspires me I feel motivated!

Although would we call it motivation when we are desperately trying to get something done before a deadline but are not feeling inspired at all to do it? Or would there be another word for that?originally posted on 20-03-2017 8:59 PM
Okay everyone, next question;
Do you find making goals helps you to feel motivated? Do you stick to them?

Sup folks!
Do you find making goals helps you to feel motivated? Do you stick to them?
Only extremely short term goals I feel. The instant gratification feels so much stronger than long term ones, like getting the mythical "higher grades" haha. I stick to these ones, though long term ones are much harder. If you're motivated to stick to long term goals, you'll do better (which is weird I guess. Motivation to stick to motivation).
Reminds me of those lollies on every couple sentences on a textbook to fuel your motivation 🙂

Do you find making goals helps you to feel motivated? Do you stick to them?As @lokifish said - positive reinforcement is key. This could come from others or from yourself. Ticking things off my to-do list serves as positive reinforcement for me 🙂
@RevzZ I agree - short term goals are the only goals that seem to work out/are specific enough to actually complete 😛 ....remember your SMART goals people :'(
