@Anonymous  @xXLexi_Lou122Xx  I'm not sure who's posting the first question yet. I've asked other mods and builders if they're interested in starting the questions, but I'll try to tag you both when the questions go up! 🙂

Sure, thanks. I'll be sure to check them out.

So this runs from 2nd-6th March only, new questions daily until then?

Awesome, thanks @WheresMySquishy . I look forward to it, hopefully everyone tagged and others reply, I'm curious to see the questions and people's answers. Thanks for this thread, good idea.

Perhaps if this turns out alright and people enjoy it, maybe we could do it again sometime or something similar? Up to the admins too of course, or moderators, whatever you call them here.

I'll answer the questions tomorrow xx

@Anonymous  We usually do a Slow-Mo Getting Real (where questions are spread out over a week) once a month. Usually around once a month, we also have live chats that usually happen at 7:30pm on a Monday night. Sometimes, we get a special guest to do a live chat about a particular issue as well. We are having one of these chats next Wednesday!

Here are some past GRs. 🙂

Awesome, I'll check back at 7:30pm tonight. I look forward to the questions today too!

Hey Guys!

1. I would say that everyone has had something go wrong in their lives, but I have quite a few.

My first one, was that I took the wrong train to school. This was on the first day, but luckily, I followed some rude boys, to school from there. Those boys were bullies, but I ignored them. It was pretty embarrassing, because I was navigating train lines for my siblings. 😐

My other situation, was last Friday night at youth group.
I was singing on stage, and I was perfectly fine. And then I suddenly became really dizzy.
This was probably caused from the lack of food I was eating, because of my brother's health. But I was in the middle of a song, and I couldn't get off stage. I wanted to, but my legs wouldn't move. When I did get off stage, I collapsed at the back of the room. I was shocked, and disappointed in myself. Like I could've been better, or something.

I hate getting taken care of, to a certain extent. If I could control this particular problem with my health, I would. But I guess I have to survive it...

@WheresMySquishy That isn't a very fun experience. At least everything's getting better?

It’s all good @Anonymous

It’s mainly a health problem that I have, that gets in the way a lot. But I’ll be okay. 🙂

Hey all,

@WheresMySquishy  I am really loving this topic, thanks so much for kicking it off. And as always, thank you for your exceptional taste in GIFs!! Like @Bananatime04 , I have also watched that penguin one several times Smiley LOL

I've just spent some time reading back through the posts so far, and I love the guts and honesty that people show here! I feel like so many people (especially on social media) don't talk about when stuff goes wrong, the epic fails, and the times when nothing has seemed to go right. I think that can often make us feel really alone and like we're the only ones when things aren't going right in our own life, it's easy to forget that social media is a really carefully edited highlights reel of so many people's lives.

When really, sometimes I know I have been feeling like these are a more accurate summary of how my day/week/month is going ..

I love that everyone here's kept it real.

@WheresMySquishy  thanks for sharing what you went through with your health. It must have been so incredibly frustrating to have to put your life on hold like that for a month, as well as stressful dealing with so many medical procedures and the pain and discomfort that can go with it. I think you've shown so much reslience in the face of what's been a really crappy time for you. Having chronic health issues sucks, and I hope that things will settle down  for you now and that 2020 is an excellent year for you, you really deserve it!

@Bananatime04  I think your post is such a perfect example of how we can learn so much about our own strength when things go wrong - I know it's been a really hard time for you with being sick and fighting your own battles with your mental health, I really admire how you continue to bounce back and always find time to support other members of the community here too. I hope that your gymnastics stuff goes well now you're well enough to get back into it!  Do you have a lot to learn for your next comps? Please keep us posted on how it goes!

@xXLexi_Lou122Xx  feeling so unwell like that when you were singing onstage must have been an terrible feeling, good on you for managing to make it through. I know you've been super busy with school, helping to look after your family, and being unwell yourself. I have a friend who used to faint quite regularly while she was performing (we played standing up which didn't help) and it must be such a bad feeling. Please don't beat yourself up about it though! It sounds like you did incredibly well to make it through. How are you feeling today?

@Anonymous  thanks so much for sharing that- seeing a mental health professional for the first time can be super scary and I'm so glad that it wasn't as bad as you expected 🙂

In response to your earlier post @Janine-RO (oops, I missed a few posts😅😑), yeah, I can understand what your friend has/is going through!

I'm so exhausted, and nearly fainted at school during basketball, but I'm okay now. I just gotta get through the last few weeks of the term. Then I can relax a bit.😊

@Tay100 did you join the Beyond Blue Forums? I saw your username on there. If so welcome, I welcomed you on there too. I'm mb20lover on BB, I was musiclover here and on SANE I was mb20fan but deleted those accounts (don't know why).

Hey guys, it's time to get this one started!

Here's the first question for our GR to do with What to do when something goes wrong!

Can you think of a time when something's gone wrong? Maybe something didn't go to plan or an unexpected complication cropped up that made things difficult. What was your initial reaction?

@ecla34these are such great questions! I'm just going to put my responses to both questions here!

Can you think of a time when something's gone wrong? Maybe something didn't go to plan or an unexpected complication cropped up that made things difficult. What was your initial reaction?

I was really hoping I would get into a postgraduate degree this year and had been allocating my time and jobs etc. last year towards helping me achieve that goal and had planned the whole next couple of years around being successful at getting that degree. Not getting it was crushing! My initial reaction to this was to cry, vent and give myself time to sit in that disappointed space for a while and then to pick myself up and get going on what I need to do to try again!

What are some of your go to strategies to either cope or resolve problems?

I really think that it's important to remember that your feelings are valid when something goes wrong - whether it makes me angry or disappointed or sad, these are all valid feelings and it helps me to allow space to feel these emotions. But after this, my strategies do involve bouncing ideas off friends and family, writing lists, researching areas relevant to what I'm struggling with and remembering to self-care when I'm feeling anxious or stressed about what's going on.

What are some of your go to strategies to either cope or resolve problems?
I really like writing about how I feel, or venting to someone. It makes me feel better. Once, I volunteered for a company that lied to me/went back on its word/failed to deliver regarding my role. They asked me to do a survey about how they could improve and I explained everything that they did to me and how I was negatively affected and inconvenienced by it. I basically told them to be more ethical in the future. It felt good to stand up for myself and get it off my chest, even if I didn't get to see their reaction.
Additionally, sometimes I listen to music that reflects my mood.
I also find that tailoring my coping strategies to suit the specific problem to be beneficial. Sometimes, I try to think about the positives regarding the situation, while other times I just want to try a meditation or play a game to take my mind off it.

Who do you turn to when things go wrong? Are there any services that you've reached out to or that you've heard of, that can be helpful in these situations?
I've reached out to my psychologist and helplines in the past and they've been helpful. I really wish there was a web chat for carers though. There are times where I've felt like I needed to hear from another carer or find some coping strategies that were specific to that situation.
I've also tried to find online services for people with chronic conditions and their families, but there aren't a lot for young people and some of my symptoms and treatments are different due to my age. Reading other people's stories and watching their videos has been helpful for me though. There was a survey an FND organisation released regarding patients' and carers' experiences and it was really eye-opening that other people were going through the same issues. It made me feel less alone and like my feelings were validated.
In the past, I used to vent to my sister, but a lot of the time, it's impossible to do that now because it stresses her out and triggers her symptoms. 😞
