Back to skewl... to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool!
"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!!!!"
That earth shattering surprise as you try to open your eyes, and suddenly remember what day it is. You don't want to be torn away; your bed is so warm and the promise of what kind of dreams it bears it irresistable. Pulling back the sheets, you rub your eyes and give one big stretch and a yawn. It's only dawn but the time moves on and you think "just 5 more minutes...."
So I'm certain you've all been eagerly anticipating this time of year again... No? You've all gotten so used to sleeping in just that while longer, spending your days assessment free, doing what you want when you want knowing there are so many days in the holidays to do all those things you shoulda, orta, coulda done before this day has arrived again. And suddenly it's hear and all those memories of free time have blissfully disappeared into a new thought..... Today I go back to school.
Starting school can mean meeting new people, juggling new subjects and even that dreaded H word....."Homework!" And with this in mind, we often experience a range of different emotions towards our education and the environment we enter in. For me, the first day was always uncertain. Coming from a small country town, you never knew what each year would bring. How much effort I needed to concentrate into my work, what teachers I was stuck with, whilst upholding a social life and all other activities I endured during a week.
Whether you're heading back to school or TAFE this week - or those days are long gone but you've got some tips to share, join us in the forums this Monday (3rd of February) at 8pm AEST, to tell us about your first day of school.
Great stress reliever for those who don't mind that kinda stuff. 🙂
What's one awesome thing you did in the summer holidays?
Applied and got accepted to do a new uni course!
Evening everyone 🙂
I hope your all enjoying your night so far!
We're wondering what's one awesome thing you did in the summer holidays?
During the holidays I spent some time in Melbourne with family. Favourite part was going to the Zoo for a day 🙂
Jordo here. I'm super excited to be here tonight because this is my first ever Getting Real session I've run as a RO staffer. I can't wait to hear all about what going back to school is like for you guys. It is also the perfect topic for me as I'm going back to Uni this year after a short break. So I'm looking forward to the discussion even more.
What's one awesome thing you did in your summer holidays?
I flew back to Melbourne for three weeks to catch up with my friends and family and while I was there I fed my friends cows! There were like 50 of them and they ate bread... I never would have guessed!
The best thing I did during the summer holidays was go to Asia for a month! I went to Malaysia for half a week, Japan for 2 and a half weeks and then Singapore for a week.
It was the first time I've been overseas without my parents - I went with my sister and friend, which was a great confidence boost for me. It was also a fantastic break for me and some of the obstacles I'd been facing in my day to day life.
It was most definitely the best thing I've done these holidays!
@florenceforever I must admit I am super jealous of your travels. I really wanted to spend the summer over in South East Asia, namely Cambodia and Thailand. But I didn't organise myself very well and missed out on going. I hope you had an amazing time over there!
Welcome @florenceforever
Sounds like you had an awesome time overseas especially without parents, must of been nice to have some freedom to yourself!! I love Japan! Hiroshima was my favourite place to see!
What's one awesome thing you did in the summer holidays?
I went to see Taylor Swift in concert, that was pretty cool 🙂
Oh man. I've only just started appreciating Taylor Swift and loving her new poppy style music. I hope her concert was boss as @delicatedreamer
Thanks @Kirdybirdy ! I loved it! It was my third trip to Japan, but like you said, so nice to experience some freedom!
I love Hiroshima - they had the lights at night and it was gorgeous! I think my favourite place in Japan is Osaka!
@Jordo-RO I dance and sing at work too, except I feel like doing so RO HQ would be more acceptable than doing so at a supermarket (especially when I get High School Musical songs stuck in my head, hahaha oh dear)
Haha @Jordo-RO - I keep singing and dancing when I'm working in my shop and think there are no customers are around. Half the time it turns out there are still customers in my shop! And the other half of the time, I forget there are windows and people are usually looking at me. I live to entertain 😉
It was really good thanks @Jordo-RO She definitely knows how to put on a good show! Guy Sebastian was a support and he was excellent too. 🙂
What's one thing that makes going back to study good?
Seeing friends, stationery shopping (I am a little bit obsessed with kikki K!), re-engaing with my passion, and having a routine again/ more to fill up my time are the best parts of going back to uni for me.
So this is making me quite jealous, and hopeful for my future when I have the money to travel too!
Anywho, how have I spent my summer?
My most notable things would be puppysitting for my sister when she went on holidays, and getting offers to both the degees I wanted to get into. Also watching a baby cockatiel grow from a bald alien to a cute but loud lookalike of its mother!
Definitely not as interesting as everyone else, but you don't need to travel to have a good time.

Yay for getting uni offers! 🙂 Still sounds like a good holiday to me. 🙂
Wow! That would've been an awesome experience! 🙂
