[CHAT] Booty dancing and other ways to exercise when you hate exercise!
Some people set their alarm, wake up bright and early and go for a run or go to the gym and absolutely enjoy it, then there's people like this guy:
But hey, that's okay; different people, different bodies.
Sometimes the traditional form of exercise is not for everyone. Some people stop themselves from exercising because they hate it so much, does that sound like you or someone you know?
My cousin got a gym membership for a year, hates exercise and hasn't been for 2 months. Waste of money? YEAH!!
We all know the amazing benefits of exercise though right? It improves your health, mental health, reduces the risk of you getting diseases like diabetes or cancer and improves your quality of life.
Even though you know all that you're probably still thinking thinking, "yeah yeah yeah, I still don't like it" and that's actually totally fine. Waking up to run everyday or going to the gym and doing the same thing every day does sound boring, but there are so many other ways to exercise without actually exercising!
For example, dancing to your favourite songs (twerking never hurt nobody), getting a dog (the best exercise buddy), cleaning (yes! odd but you really get your heart racing with it) and swimming (refreshing and calming at the same time).
In this Getting Real session, we are going to talk about altenative ways of exercising. We want to know what other ways you exercise and how well it works for you. Come ready and pumped guys let's work out how to work out?
So join us this Monday 19th October 8pm AEST and maybe get some tips for you and your loved ones too.
Obstacle courses in general are awesome! I guess that is why I love high ropes so much!
Fish, yuck! Just don't say you like spearfishing when sitting on a panel that also has someone from police. Hahaha. Long story short, the person who mentioned it got an I'm watching you hand signal. Hahaha.
How will you stay healthy this week?
Going for a walk around the block during class breaks, packing my own lunch instead of buying my usual at the cafeteria. Don't let the haters bring me down.
Do you know anyone who might need to think a bit more about what we have talked about today? How would you help them see exercise differently?
Yes my cousin got a gym membership and is full of excuses. I want to keep encouraging her to try something different and fun. I'm going to keep asking her to go with me or maybe her friends and I want to find some low impact exercises for her.
Do you know anyone who might need to think a bit more about what we have talked about today? How would you help them see exercise differently?
Show them all the fun ways you can exercise as well as the benefits of being healthy.
Thank you all for joining us, here is the summary for tonight
What does being healthy mean to you?
Being healthy means that your physical, mental and social well being is looked after and it is not just about the body and it is about looking after ourselves in the present and in the future.
We get surrounded by lots of images of people in the media who look a certain way and this seems to be called "fit". Do you think the definitions of "healthy" and "fit" are different?
Being fit is more physically focused and being healthy is more holistic and can mean being comfortable in your own skin regardless of your physical appearance. Health is about better aging, no diseases or illness, lower stress levels whereas fitness is about strength, toned, flexibility and better physical appearance.
We don't have to go to the gym to stay healthy; there are lots of other ways to be healthy! What's your favourite way to get healthier?
Some said getting enough sleep, walking, drinking lots of water, dancing, so taking care of our mind, body and soul.
Exercising can sometimes be seen as a chore. What tips do you have to get into the groove of things?
Some of the tips were to listen to music, mix up your workouts, have a buddy, and try new things like martial arts or hot yoga.
What type of exercises would you like to try?
There are so many exercises out there to try like Swimming, Lacrosse, Roller Derby, Spin classes, Twerk workouts, Yoga, Rock climbing, self defence, kickboxing, tai chi and many more. Challenge yourself today and do something you would like to try in the next month.
How will you stay healthy this week?
Some said this week they will make sure they get enough sleep, eat healthy foods, get some physical activity in there, practise self care and try to stay positive.
Do you know anyone who needs to think a bit more about what we have talked about today? How would you help them see exercise differently?
Helping them see exercise as being fun and non-Traditional, encourage them to keep trying and keep searching for new things to do.
Before you sleep watch this funny little video
Have an awesome week everyone 🙂
Do you know anyone who might need to think a bit more about what we have talked about today? How would you help them see exercise differently?
Err ... not really.
Yeah it can be tricky to break out of those thought cycles huh, but don't be too hard on yourself, it takes a little while to train your brain into new ways of thinking (like 3 solid months of hard work). But I from chatting to you on the forums, i know you're pretty tough and know how to get back up again after a bit of a stumble. So go @FootyFan26! You can do it!
They both could be interesting.
How will you stay healthy this week?
Sleep. So simple but it is definitely a part of being healthy!
And eat more fruit! (Mango season is upon us :3 )
What type of exercises would you like to try?
I would love to try twerk exercises, poll dancing exercises and hot yoga. I kinda hate group exercises but if I had a couple of friends with me I would definitely go for it 🙂
What type of exercises would you like to try?
I haven't really not tried anything I want to but I really enjoyed rock climbing the last time I did that so that's probably what I'd like to do again. I'd also like to get better at skateboarding.
