[CHAT] Booty dancing and other ways to exercise when you hate exercise!

Some people set their alarm, wake up bright and early and go for a run or go to the gym and absolutely enjoy it, then there's people like this guy:

alarm-clock-gif-destroy.gif

But hey, that's okay; different people, different bodies.

Sometimes the traditional form of exercise is not for everyone. Some people stop themselves from exercising because they hate it so much, does that sound like you or someone you know?

My cousin got a gym membership for a year, hates exercise and hasn't been for 2 months. Waste of money? YEAH!!

We all know the amazing benefits of exercise though right? It improves your health, mental health, reduces the risk of you getting diseases like diabetes or cancer and improves your quality of life.

Even though you know all that you're probably still thinking thinking, "yeah yeah yeah, I still don't like it" and that's actually totally fine. Waking up to run everyday or going to the gym and doing the same thing every day does sound boring, but there are so many other ways to exercise without actually exercising!

For example, dancing to your favourite songs (twerking never hurt nobody), getting a dog (the best exercise buddy), cleaning (yes! odd but you really get your heart racing with it) and swimming (refreshing and calming at the same time).

In this Getting Real session, we are going to talk about altenative ways of exercising. We want to know what other ways you exercise and how well it works for you. Come ready and pumped guys let's work out how to work out?

So join us this Monday 19th October 8pm AEST and maybe get some tips for you and your loved ones too.

Hahaha @FootyFan26 very interesting but I guess you would be so tired after that it would be relaxing? Never played footy, I think I would suck haha

@ruenhonx after the game is boring!

And I have to get off the high I get from playing footy which sucks even more. Trust me, anyone can play footy.

I've played with people who've never played footy before and would run away from the ball, at the end of the season they were looking like pros - or semi pros at least.

@FootyFan26 nice way of separating the two and definitely agree with that.

2. We get surrounded by lots of images of people in the media who look a certain way and this seems to be called "fit". Do you think the definitions of "healthy" and "fit" are different? What are the differences between "healthy" and "fit" to you?

This question is super tricky because the answer is so subjective! I find that both words mean different definitions to people, and they can be stigmatised more than the other. When I was younger, I was a chubby kid - and people would use the word 'healthy' as a means of politely telling me that I was not skinny or "fit". But healthy can mean being comfortable being in your own skin and feeling good, despite what you may look like.

In my eyes, I've usually pictured "fit" as prancing in activewear and hitting the gym. But the gym isn't the only place to do some exercise!

Yes healthy and fit are different but go hand in hand. Fit to me is related to the more physical aspect like running swimming or whatever but fit people are not always healthy people. Healthy encorporated as some of you said physical, mental, emotional etc. and you can be healthy at any size or any fitness level.

Yeaaah! Health isn't just the absence of illness! It's a lot of positive things that go beyond just not being sick.

Hmm @ruenhonx interesting answer, for me I don't try to be tooo hard on myself, if there's chocolate cake, then I'm gonna eat it!

(pretend that watermelon is chocolate cake and that's basically me)

@ruenhonx Hmmm, I wouldn't say that I'm entirely healthy! Smiley Embarassed I've got my moments when I'd consider myself fine but there are other times where there could be some  improvements,  haha.

Hey guys

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and isn't just being free of disease or illness.

@FootyFan26

What's the most important aspect of health for you?

FootyFan26Posted 19-10-2015 08:17 PM

@Ben-RO I would say that physical health is important to me as well as mental health.  I'm not a health nut but I do watch what I eat a little bit.  I also try to take steps to work on my mental health which is harder to do.

@FootyFan26

I like the idea of not being too intense about health, and not being a "health nut" I think doing "a little bit" of everything is actually enough to help a lot!

2. We get surrounded by lots of images of people in the media who look a certain way and this seems to be called "fit". Do you think the definitions of "healthy" and "fit" are different? What are the differences between "healthy" and "fit" to you?

Yep I think there's a big difference, I know I have sometimes gotten caught up in the idea of having a 6-pack which I think is the strange idea of being "fit" and it took me a while to learn that was different to the defintion of "healthy".

I think "fit" is all about looking a certain way or being really awesome at a particular sport like running, cycling or swimming.

Healthy is different because it also thinks about being happy and comfortable and enjoying life. I think there's a lot of "fit" people out there who are not very healthy 😞

1. What does being healthy mean to you?

Good evening all! 🙂 Being healthy to me means having a positive outlook and doing self-care each day.

2. We get surrounded by lots of images of people in the media who look a certain way and this seems to be called "fit". Do you think the definitions of "healthy" and "fit" are different? What are the differences between "healthy" and "fit" to you?

Yes they are two differnt things but I still think they are pretty closely related. Like, if you are fit you must be pretty healthy or you won't keep up your stamina. So if you want to be fit, like cardio fit, then you have to eat healthy food and not McD's each day.

I 'd like to say that you can be healthy and you don't necessarily have fitness, but maybe that's wrong.

I would be cheating myself if  said, oh, I'm not sick and I eat vegies so I must be healthy, but I can't run a mile...I don't know, I dn't consider myself healthy if myphysical fitness if I'm puffing walking up stairs.. Just saying 🙂

Besides, th images in the media are just one side and pressure people to standards that are impossible to attain for most of us.

1. What does being healthy mean to you?

Being healthy to me is looking after my body now and also making sure i look after it in the future.

If I can do all the things i want to do and feel like i have the energy to do them. Then I'm healthy! I also keep a bit of an eye on things like drinking alcohol and don't smoke anymore, because i know that i might not notice the effects right now, but that they might kick my butt in the future.

Hey beautiful people.

Being healthy to me means so much but I find it so hard to actually be healthy. I try so hard, I want to prevent sicknesses and all that but that chocolate cake is always calling my name 😞
