[CHAT] I'm out of time, all the time!
Ever heard the saying; "Time flies when you're having fun!" but find yourself out of time anyway!?
Everyone struggles to fit things into their schedule so if you are looking for some tips to stay productive and get on top of time management or want to find out if there really are enough hours in the day, this is the chat for you!

What do you do to stay organised at school, uni, work or in your personal life?
I put everything on the calendar on my mobile phone, like events, assessment deadlines, birthdays, things I have to do weekly.. I'd be pretty lost if I my phone went missing! My phone also has alarms for waking up and alarms for when to leave the house to catch the right train.
Writing down a list of things I have to do also helps for seeing what has to be done and what to prioritise -less brain space taken up from all the tasks floating around in my head!
Also, I draw up a planner of assessment deadlines, with the weeks on top and the subjects along the side... there's like lines going from when the task is handed out (if known) to when the it's due and I mark the task with a symbol e.g. square for exam, triangle for assignment, circle for presentation... the subjects are also colour coded. It gives a big picture view of what is coming up and how much time I have before then to prepare. It's pretty good because I am a visual learner and seeing it all in one place helps with knowing which weeks will be kind of chill and which will be busy

Sometimes I just need to write things out, be that on my phone or on paper. I have to do lists, daily planners, weekly planners, monthly planners, all of which I used as required.
All of the above go on my planner board, surrounded by cool encouraging uplifting quotes to keep me inspired and motivated!
What helps you to keep using time-management devices such as diaries, apps or calendars?
I am admittedly slack at times, but I know I need them and if I'm noticing things start to slide, I jump straight back to my organisation methods to keep me on track.

Hey everyone!
For me, I find using a combination of my Calendar (on my phone) and a to-do list app really helps. On my calendar I can see when everything is due and when stuff is happening, and then the more urgent or closer events are on my to-do list. However, when I start coming into exam periods, that is when I will create an actual, physical scheduale of when I am doing everything. I will stick it up on my wall and cross off each day until it's done (a little bit of motivation )
And for my personal and work life.... well it sort of just fits in when it can
@Randomness so true! I find that going for a short walk in between study sessions means I actually retain more info than cramming for hours on end
@tomo_13 good to see you! I like how you adapt your approach depending on the circumstances - and get the best of both worlds using technology and old fashioned paper 🙂
haha interesting! I think I look at the time more when I'm feeling overwhelmed and stressed, which probably doesn't really help get things done 😛

I ask myself this everyday because so many people seem to be under the illusion that I am an organised person but most of the time I don't feel organised at all! For starters, I try to stick with the attitude, just do it and try not to get stuck overthinking things so much that I'm not actually doing anything. I am also a list person. I find it really helpful being able to see things on a piece of paper and tick things off as I go, otherwise if I leave everything in my head I feel overwhelmed by all the things I feel like I need to do and am more likely to forget things.

In more formal occasions and in places where there is a structured day i.e. school, uni and work, I like to stick to my schedule as much as possible. If I notice I am taking too long to do something, I will simply stop it and move onto the next thing (I like to think that I will be more focussed and ready by the time I get back to it).
In my personal life, I am more flexible and really just go with the flow. I still keep important things organised by setting aside specified time, but I like to be more spontaneous as well! 😛
@cupcakes_032 haha yeah it becomes kind of self-defeating... looking at the clock because you're worried there's no time, but then there's no time because you're always looking at the clock 😛 ahh brains, gotta love 'em

I go in blind and hope . I find that schedules help and having incentives for doing stuff helps me to keep on top of them.

I have a diary where I write down what needs to be done and by when. I'm very much a paper-based person so I print out my lecture notes and put them in colour-coded folders for each of my subjects. It's much easier having everything I need in the one location 🙂

But yes sometimes I have to write out what I want to do, the writing makes me visualise and process my tasks

Also, take breaks, eat well, sleep well, practice self care! You might feel like you are wasting time when you're really busy and have a lot to get done, but it clears your head and actually helps you get more done faster.

I struggle with maintaining good habits haha. Putting them in a place where I’m likely to see them e.g. desk, drawers tends to help though. If I don't have the visual reminder then I often forget to do things
