Following through on our resolutions
As 2016 draws to a close, a new year is fast approaching.
(awww yeah!)
Part of the new year is making resolutions. Whether it's to exercise more, get started on that novel or story you're writing or something else, resolutions can be hard to follow through on.
Join us next Monday, 19th at 8pm AEDT where, we'll be talking about how to get started on any changes that you might like to make, either now or in the new year, and make them stick.
Mine is more or less "Same shit, different year". But I just do things when I have the inspiration / energy.
Wanting it bad helps.
Also being really specific and REALISTIC.
Like one of my goals was to go to the gym every day. Guess who got burnt out doing that? Lasted a couple of months but I did maintain tracking the whole year so I'm looking forward to analysing the numbers and challenging myself to do better next year .... nerdy I know...
What are some new years resolutions you have made in the past?
- Read a specified number of books
- Exercise
- Meditate
- Be more positive
- Only buy clothes that I really really love
- Keep my space clear and get rid of/let go of items that don't make me happy or serve a purpose
Hey!!!
I already shared one of mine, the other I won't say and I keep failing at it (which is a really good thing, even though I tried it agian today)
Nice job on sticking to the tim tam resolution @loves netball - that chocolate-y goodness is hard to resist!
@letitgo I had to stop because the whole packet would be gone in two days, but I resorted to just blocks of chocolate. So I limit the times I buy chocolate and just make my own sweets because I love baking anyway. And now that I've stopped the tim tams I don't seem to want them anymore
@loves netball so awesome that you make your own sweets! Isn't baking fun?!
Oooh, yum!! @loves netball You've inspired me - I'm going to bake those next!
Hey everyone - welcome! 🙂
Tonight we will be talking tips and tricks for sticking to your goals and staying motivated!
I recently found my list of new years resolutions from last year and realised I hadn't completed many of them. Was it because they were tucked away in a notebook in my drawer? Were they too vague/not specific enough? Did I set goals that were unachievable?
Join us to chat about resolutions you have made in the past, what helped you stick to them, why you didn't complete some, what your plans are for 2017 resolutions and what you can do if you are struggling to stick to them!
Please remember to follow our community guidelines during the discussion tonight which you can find here. If at any point in this disucussion you feel overwhelmed or distressed please talk to someone on our list here.
Hi @May_ @N1ghtW1ng @j95 @loves netball! Welcome to this evenings GRRRR!!!
So mine have mostly been things like:
- eat better
- get fitter
- get healthy
basically along those lines BUT i just realised that I have set goals recently and achieved them, like goals for the year. Do they count as resolutions if you didn't think of them that way till now?
Seems like most of our goals directly relate to being healthier and happier!
Good point @May_ seems like new years resolutions are all about improving in some way shape or form. Or perhaps solving something that we see as a problem in our lives.
Although @loves netball i do note that for you it was a very tough time. We're glad you're still here and working on those skills to stay safe and work towards recovery.
I think they still count @Stealth_ninja
Time for the next question...
2. Have you ever successfully completed a new years resolution? What resolutions worked/didn't work? What was it or how did you make sure you did it?
I don't normally have a resolution, but I told myself no tim tams, so I stopped buying them and just stuck to chocolate instead.
2. Have you ever successfully completed a new years resolution? What resolutions worked/didn't work? What was it or how did you make sure you did it?
I actually got fitter this year, finally figured out how to make myself do things that don't give me an instant reward 😛
2. Have you ever successfully completed a new years resolution? What resolutions worked/didn't work? What was it or how did you make sure you did it?
I don't know if I have because I often make them too vague! I've come close to completing my reading goals but I think I set the bar too high...
So I think it's really important to make sure your goals are specific, measurable and achievable! I often feel embarrassed setting really 'easy' resolutions but I think it is key to being successful!
