GR: TV and MOVIES!!!! - 29th April :)

THIS IS GONNA BE A FUN ONE GUYS!!!

It's just over 48 hours until we start our fun Getting Real session about all of our favourite TV shows and movies!

It's just a super chill chance to have a chat about the shows we love...

(^ I see no problems there 😉 )

The characters and heroes we admire...

and the movies that we've watched literally dozens of times and can't wait to convince everyone else to see Smiley LOL

What's really epic about this one is that it gives everyone the chance to get to know a bit about everyone else 😄 It's amazing what you can learn about people from the things they love Heart  That's pretty rad imo!

(P.S. if anyone wants to chat about things they're interested in, they should head on over to the Hanging Out section of the forums if they're too excited to wait until Monday ;), but i digress )

If this sounds like a blast to you too, you're more than welcome (encouraged truly 😛 ) to join us on Monday the 29th of April at 7:30 pm AEDT to have a chat!

@indieinsanus agreed! more content with women that doesn't revolve around romance in 2019 please! (not that romance isn't epic too, but.. it's not everything :P)

@ecla34 I think ending everything in romance kind of sets a standard too, like to have a happy ending you need to fall in love. I wish it was more focused on falling in love with yourself.

really good point, self-love is so important, you're the one who's always there at the end of things 😄 people are whole full stop, not having a romantic subplot to your life doesn't make it empty Heart

@Puppies026  Same! My area used to just be mostly bushland when I first moved in as a child. I could go on walks all the time and just admire the scenery. Now it is a major centre for businesses and construction. A trip that should only take a few minutes by car can take over an hour due to the major traffic jams at certain times.

Last question of the night! Smiley Very Happy

If you could make your own TV show/movie, what would it be about?

I used to like writing science fiction stories as a kid so it would probably be sci-fi themed. Anything can happen in science fiction. It would also have a positive representation of characters with disabilities because you don't see that much nowadays. One thing that bugs me about some shows and movies is how they use disability to put a character out of action. In the stories I wrote as a kid, the characters with disabilities were as much a part of the action as the other characters. I agree with some of the other ideas everyone has had too!

@WheresMySquishy that's very true! Whenever a character has a disability they either have to be magically healed or are written off. I'm thinking about in the Hunger Games books about Peeta's injury: I believe he had his leg amputated/ replaced with a prosthetic but in the movie they made it so it healed completely by magic? So annoying! Disabilities aren't the end!

@indieinsanus - aww, thank you! I wish! Smiley Very Happy Also, I thought about majoring in film until I decided on literature/psychology. My brother is very interested in the film industry! Smiley Very Happy

I'm going to log off now guys, thank you for the chat! This is my first GR session and I'm feeling really happy and inspired right now, especially after the character question haha. I look forward to reading any more responses later!

@HozzlesThe way people respond to amputations in TV shows and movies is the worst. I've read comments like, 'Oh well, seeing as that character has an amputation that means they won't be adventuring any more.' Once, writers teased that a character's amputation would be harrowing. But when it actually happened, I just felt relief and happiness that they weren't going to kill off the character and they were still able to have a fulfilling life. I'm hoping that they will keep the character around for future installments because in most cases, life doesn't just stop when you have a disability. I also find it weird when characters get a disability but then get healed not long afterwards.

@WheresMySquishy true!! sidelining characters with disabilities is just lazy writing, especially in sci-fi!!

Cannot stress this enough... something with a happy, healthy lesbian relationship that doesn't end in cheating/ sadness/ death! How hard is it! Smiley Frustrated Also, I'd love more positive representations of mental illnesses that aren't that well represented (like OCD or schizophrenia for example).

All this, but maybe a musical and maybe with supernatural beings and a lot of art.

Also, it would be great if the stories I write could magically become TV shows/ movies, if only just for me hahah.

If you could make your own TV show/movie, what would it be about?

I think I would make the TV show from the perspective of a young child growing up in a family of domestic violence. In a serious but also funny and relatable sense just like 13 Reasons Why. I think this is so so important because although most people know that it's not right generally, I think a show like that would really show people how much it really effects the child to the extent that is only known by victims. And hopefully raising awareness through that would lead to a big change!

Mine would probably be about lots of things. Like growing up, and mental health, but it would also be humorous. I think the main character would be awkward and kind of antisocial, just something people can relate to i think.

Probably about an Asian teenage girl trying to find her place in the world while struggling with her mental health, identity and other teen issues in high school. It would be a mix of comedy and drama, I think, as well?

I love all these ideas for a TV show or movie!! They're all so creative, meaningful and important to the world, while also sounding very binge worthy to watch at the same time! 😄

And... I'm off for the night everyone! It was so good at seeing so many members engaging in tonight's GR! I loved seeing everyone's answers!

I am interested in the film/tv industry and would probably consider it as a career option if I didn't pursue psychology @indieinsanus  :).

Which TV show/movie world would you most like to live in and why?
I have no idea. Like everything I watch (apart from Disney/ children's TV) is dystopian/ borderline apocalyptic. Maybe a world with talking animals and vampires, but good vampires. Smiley LOL

@Hozzles I recommend watching every marvel movie ever made. And i LOVE the hunger games. of course i love the books way more, and am genuinely disturbed by lack of details in the adaption, but i still love the movies too.
