Poems/Creative Writing

Hey All

Writing became a great tool for me when I was going through a lot. I found it helped to get everything down on paper and was also a great way to express the emotional turmoil I was going through.

So please post any type of poem or piece of creative writing that you have either come across or have written. But please recognize that author and remember the RO guidelines. Cheers

Re: Poems/Creative Writing

So here was a good one that i came across a little while back. A friend reminded me to look at the similarities and not the differences. Please note that this poem talks about 'disease/addiction' as if it was talking to you. Later I will post one about 'I am your recovery' just to give both sides of the picture. Cheers

Hello fellow addicts I am your disease,
I will never let you sleep or put your mind at ease,

I will always be here no matter where you go,
I am smarter than you and I am in control,

Family, friends, and loved ones they won't matter anymore,
I'll take everything you got and still want something more

I was there for you in the good times but mostly in the bad,
I've made you feel so happy but in the end you was always sad

You will lie to everyone and say that I ain't real,
but if that's the case why can't you put down that pill

I come in many forms, and shapes, and size
Then following comes denial, deceit, and lies

I will turn you from everyone that tries to take you from me
Together we will spend all eternity

I'll embrace you in my arms and I'll never set you free,
Spend our life together won't that make you happy,

Don't let those people tell you what I am all about,
Cause then you'll find a way; a way to kick me out

Well here I go now I'll just be on my way
but not for to much longer cause I still have much to say

So when you think I'm gone and you can finally be at ease,
Just remember this I will always be your disease.

Re: Poems/Creative Writing

Like I said I would this one is the opposite of the last. It's called 'I am your friend; recovery' I found both of the poems motivators for change. I hope you too can gain the things that you are looking for. Cheers

I am your friend. I hold out my hand and bring you faith.
I award you serenity and self-esteem.
I bestow upon you peace and acceptance.
I wrap you in love and tender the shield of knowledge.
I volunteer humility and shower you with confidence.
I bequeath spiritual growth, emotional advancement and physical revival.
I am your friend; I will lead you out of the darkness into the light.
I will carry you when you are weak and escort you through honesty.
I will provide tools for the battles and binding for your wounds.
I am your friend. I will teach you abstinence and release you from burden.
I will initiate forgiveness and I will foster willingness.
I will nurture ambition and claim back your life.
I am your friend.
My name is "Recovery."

Re: Poems/Creative Writing

Hey there @mack1 - this is such an amazing thread idea and i love both of the poems you have posted so far. I think it's great you have credited the authors too but i'm just going to take out those links to the external websites. We can still write the authors names though Smiley Happy

I personally am terrible at poems - although i've never really tried - but might try and find one I like over the weekend. I'm a big John Keats fan. Have you ever heard of him?

Re: Poems/Creative Writing

Cool. I didn't know if I should include the link or not, thanks for doing that.

No never heard of him, but just Googled him. He's pretty good.

Re: Poems/Creative Writing

Another great one from a Robbie Williams film - dead poets society. Enjoy

248. To the Virgins, to make much of Time

GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun, 5
The higher he 's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he 's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer; 10
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime, 15
You may for ever tarry.

Robert Herrick. 1591–1674

Meaning of Gather ye rosebuds while ye may - carpe diem or seize the day

Here's a little bit of one! Letters to Fanny by John Keats.

"You fear, sometimes, I do not love you so much as you wish? My dear Girl I love you ever and ever and without reserve. The more I have known you the more have I lov'd. In every way - even my jealousies have been agonies of Love, in the hottest fit I ever had I would have died for you. I have vex'd you too much. But for Love! Can I help it? You are always new. The last of your kisses was ever the sweetest; the last smile the brightest; the last movement the gracefullest. When you pass'd my window .home yesterday, I was fill'd with as much admiration as if I had then seen you for the first time. You uttered a half complaint once that I only lov'd your Beauty. Have I nothing else then to love in you but that? Do not I see a heart naturally furnish'd with wings imprison itself with me? No ill prospect has been able .to turn your thoughts a moment from me. This perhaps should be as much a subject of sorrow as joy - but I will not talk of that. Even if you did not love me I could not help an entire devotion to you: how much more deeply then must I feel for you knowing you love me. My Mind has been the most discontented and restless one that ever was put into a body too small for it. I never felt my Mind repose upon anything with complete and undistracted enjoyment - upon no person but you. When you are in the room my thoughts never fly out of window: you always concentrate my whole senses."

A poem about belief from the "hello poetry" website - by William W.

"Belief it is a power there within your soul
we all need belief to keep our body whole
believe in who you are believe in what you do
make your dreams be real and make your dreams come true
use whats in your heart this will keep you strong
then your use your belief when dreams come along
if you have belief   life will guide you through"

Re: Poems/Creative Writing

This one is a tribute to Phillip Hughes and is written by a girl name Abi. After reading this I felt that it could apply to anyone who has lost somebody close (similarities and not the differences)

As he walked towards the heavens gates, he stood there all alone
And turned his face back to the world, and the country he had called home
He saw the tear stained faces
That spanned Australia wide
For the little bloke from Macksville
Who tragically had died.
He spun to face Saint Peter, with his cap and bat in hand
he asked
"Please don't let my friends and family suffer,
Just help them if you can"
Saint Peter embraced the saddened Man and held him strong and true
"They'll never be alone my son, they'll forever still have you."
"Although you had to leave them,
And that world you did depart.
A piece of you forever remains in each of their sad hearts"
As Hughes had turned to enter heaven through the stunning Golden gate
A voice yelled from the shadows "Come over here now mate".
Bradman stood there grinning with a bat and ball in hand.
He put his arm around Phil's shoulder and said "You're up to bat young man".

RIP Phillip

If you love Keats you might also love the movie Bright Star, which is about Keats and Fanny. Smiley Happy @lanejane
