Re: [SPECIAL GUEST] Family Dramas

if you were concerned something was up but they don't feel like talking about it with you, you can always casually drop lines about other services where they can remain anonymous like the Kids Help Line, then at least they know there's options. I would also tell them that you're there for them and will talk to them when they are ready to talk. Sometimes it just takes time.

Re: [SPECIAL GUEST] Family Dramas

@j95 One thing to do is to leave a bit of an invitation to talk more. Sometimes people need some time to feel safe and comfortable about opening up. So let them know you're okay with talking and are there for them and then be cool with waiting for them to be comfortable with accepting the invitation you left them.

Re: [SPECIAL GUEST] Family Dramas

Hey @j95 that is a good question. The important thing to do is to still be there for them, don't push them to talk about it, offer some help when they ask, be informed about some stuff so you are ready to help when they are ready to talk to you.

Most of the time it is a good idea to give them space and allow them to seek help when they are ready, however if you think they are at risk or in serious danger than ringing emergency services is totally okay.

Re: [SPECIAL GUEST] Family Dramas

Really great question. You dont want someone to shut off bc they've been pushed too hard. After youve brought it up considerately, that youre worried about them and that you're there to listen, then sometimes the balls in their court

Re: [SPECIAL GUEST] Family Dramas

Also remember sometimes people need someone to help them with distress tolerance, coping strategies and distraction techniques. So you might be helping just by the simple act of offering to hang out and do fun stuff, even if they might never be ready to talk about it with someone they know and might only reach out privately for example .
