Re: Feeling overwhelmed

Aw @Tiny_leaf I’m so sorry to hear that...

Remember you are safe Heart whatever trauma you are experiencing, happened. I know it’s tragic but it’s in the past and you’re okay now. Remind yourself that it’s not happening right now and try to become aware of what is going on in this moment.
Bring yourself back to the present Heart

Would it help to think about your dog? You could do some planning like scheduled weekly walks (they don’t have to be long, I know you have issues with chronic pain Smiley Happy ), what times you’ll feed them, what tricks you’ll try start with, you could do some online shopping or browsing for new supplies like a bed, collar and lead, bowl etc. If you don’t usually do online shopping you could look at online websites for your local stores and get the things next time you go.. How does that sound? Or we could talk through some of these things.

If not you could try some grounding techniques, breathing exercises, distractions or call a helpline if you’re having trouble typing Heart

I’m thinking of you

Re: Feeling overwhelmed

A bit of a TW here for a rant about chronic pain..

One thing that people don't talk about much with chronic pain is the anger.

Like I'm not angry with my body or myself or even the pain itself.

I'm angry with the fucking "doctors" who ignored and belittled my pain.

Who told me not to use necessary mobility aids because I would "look disabled"

Who prescribed yoga instead of a pain management plan the day after I had to drag myself crying across the house on my stomach just to get to the toilet.

Who were so determined to diagnose me as having nothing that they missed two (TWO) conditions that they could have been treating or managing.

Or the physio who pushed me so hard that I ended up crying repeatedly in front of everyone because it hurt so fucking much and caused my pain to flare up for like two months because he refused to listen.

I hate the whole "if you can't cure it ignore it" mentality.

Like.. I'd like to get more out of life than lying down trying to figure out whether all my joints are in place or pretending to ignore the horrible shooting pains going up my leg.

And you can't fix that shit with yoga and wistful thinking.

I need to get a new doctor but I'm pretty sure they're all the same.

And because of all my poorly managed conditions I don't have the energy to make the change anyway.

It's like that "there's a hole in my bucket" song. Like all I need is someone to give me a working bucket and I'll be able to fix all the other shit but that's never going to happen.

Re: Feeling overwhelmed

I’m so sorry @Tiny_leaf that sounds absolutely horrible...

I understand that would be such a horrible experience, I don’t blame you for being angry. I know I can’t fully understand what you’re going through because I haven’t experienced it, but I think you’ve explained how you’re feeling really well Smiley Happy are you still doing hydrotherapy? Also I’m just wondering if there are doctors that actually specialise in chronic pain to help you.. that way you can get help from someone that has more knowledge on that area and might be able to ease your pain a bit?

No one should have to go through this and you do deserve to get help from someone who cares and someone who can make a difference

Re: Feeling overwhelmed

Hey @Tiny_leaf ,

I'm so sorry to hear that stuff is feeling so exhausting and overwhelming, chronic pain can be so all encompassing, and it's really understandable that you're feeling angry and frustrated. I would be angry too in your position. I can't imagine how frustrating it would have been to have been prescribed yoga when you were in so much pain Smiley Sad

How are you feeling today?

Re: Feeling overwhelmed

Yeah there are pain specialists but no one will refer me to one.

I'm exhausted and in pain but I can't actually rest when other people are around and it's the school holidays so looks like I'm just gonna be on edge for ages.

Re: Feeling overwhelmed

Ah I'm sorry to hear that @Tiny_leaf  - are there people at home at your place during the school holidays? That's kinda frustrating Smiley Sad Have you ever tried noise cancelling headphones to try and block things out at all?

Re: Feeling overwhelmed

@Janine-RO yeah...

Plus I can't do noise cancelling headphones thanks to trauma and/ or anxiety.
