Intrusive thoughts

Hey everyone!

I could really do with some help riddling something out. For the longest time I`ve dealt with intrusive thoughts and it`s getting to the point where I`m just so sick of fighting them all the time. I`ve done research and know that intrusive thoughts are normal for most of us and for the most part they pass like clouds. But for me, it just feels different. Like, they`re not just clouds, and once they`re in my mind, I can`t stop hyperfixiating on them. Like, it`s seemingly impossible to STOP hyperfixiating on them and because of this they just keep recurring. And this leads to me feeling real flat, freaked out because some, or even most, of these thoughts really disturb me, and just like a crazy person. I know I have anxiety of some sort and I know that anxiety definitely contributes to intrusive thoughts but I`m beginning to really feel like I might have some form of OCD because this has been going on for so long and it`s exhausting. It`s seriously getting to the point where sometimes I feel I can`t even tell what`s my thoughts and what`s an intrusive one. It`s just ridiculous.  And, what`s really frustrating me is I`m in my first ever relationship with someone I really like, and my stupid brain won`t stop creating intrusive thoughts about it 😖 I just don`t know what to do about it....Oh well, nothing chocolate can`t fix XD

Thx for listening legends 🙂

Hey @Masquerade_HS

I just wanted to jump in and thank you for sharing this with us. It sounds like this has been very difficult for you and has been having a big impact on you. I can imagine that it wasn’t easy to share this, and would have taken a lot of courage and bravery but I’m really glad that you did and have been able to open up to us.

I know you mentioned that you’ve been having intrusive thoughts about your relationship and was wondering if you’ve been able to talk to your partner about this and share what you’re going through, or been able to share this with anyone else?

I’m also curious about whether there was anything that helps reduce these thoughts?

It is understandable how tough and exhausting this must be for you and I want to remind you that you don’t have to deal with this alone. It is best to reach out to a doctor or mental health professional so that you can get some support with this. We have an article that has some more information about support services if you want to know more.

I know that you mentioned that you think it may be OCD, and whilst we are unable to diagnose or give advice, I wanted to still share this article with you about dealing with OCD and a weekly wellbeing where a special guest shared about their experience and how they manage OCD that I thought may be helpful.

I want to thank you again for being so brave and sharing this with us all. Remember that you aren’t alone, and we are all here to listen and support you.💜

Hey @Masquerade_HS ,

Thank you for connecting with the community and sharing what has been going on for you.

It takes a lot of strength and courage to reach out.

In many ways, yes, people do have invasive thoughts at some point or another in their life. They may just be like clouds, but for others, it could be chronic.

There are some mental health conditions where people are more prone to such thoughts. If you are concerned, would you consider speaking to a professional about what is going on for you?

We will also be in touch shortly via email.

Welcome back!
