TW: managing my safety and depression

Hey guys Smiley Happy 

thought it was a good time to start a new thread because I actually feel capable of doing it today..

I’m starting to get really worried about myself. Like this is really serious and I don’t know what to do. I have felt so happy today and that is really bad. Every time I feel ‘happy’ straight after it (like usually the next day), I have a depression episode and it gets really difficult. Last time I found it hard to stay safe and this time I’m extra scared because my school counsellor has recently gone on holiday for 6 weeks and my khl counsellor is never available these days so there go my main supports..

I understand how you feel, but I can’t currently reply properly tonight. I’ll look at it properly tomorrow, when I don’t have parents yelling at me.

I’m glad you’re feeling happier today though! I saw you hitting the games section earlier, so well done for that! Plus the support you gave another user! I am super proud of you!

It's actually a really good sign that you can recognise that things might get harder soon - it's much better than having stuff like this sneak up on you.


Do you think that now might be a good time to start looking into extra supports?


Another thing; how's your safety plan? It's probably good to double check that everything's still up to date..

I only know it’s gonna happen because it’s happened so many times and it’s really scary.. I’m scared of myself. That is messed up
I don’t really know any other supports because my main ones are gone over the next few days.. do you know anymore online supports?
I just had a quick look at my safety plan and I think it looks good.. there is something missing tho and I’m just gonna send you an email about it @Maddy-RO Smiley Happy

I just got some bad news.. I’m at school and everyone’s leaving and all the classes are cancelled. The principal passed away this morning. He had stage 4 cancer and now he’s gone 😔

I'm sorry to hear you will have less supports around for you in the next couple of weeks. The fact that you are preparing for that and have thought through some other supports to bolster your support network is so important, and we are happy to help you with this! Heart 


Have you used eheadspace before?


I'm so sorry to hear about your principal, that must be such a shock! Hoping you can do something to take care of yourself this afternoon Heart Sending our love to your school community

It was horrible news because I started the day so shit and then hearing that was absolutely heartbreaking and has triggered my thoughts of suicide. I’m safe
I have used eheadspace but I stopped when I started seeing the school counsellor because they said when you have face to face support they leave. I might try going again later if I need to tho

Hi @Bananatime04 . It's good to hear from you. I'm sorry you are having a tough time within yourself at the moment. I've been feeling similar and I forced myself to go to headspace and then they admitted me into ED because I couldn't keep myself safe. It's great that you checked out your safety plan. I have learned that when I can't make my own safe and responsible decisions then it's best to let others take care of me and if that means hospital to rest, so be it. 


Perhaps being around people may give you some reassurance not to act on those thoughts? How do you feel about that? Also in terms of online supports, beyond blue, Kidshelpline in general, suicide call back service and lifeline can be good to contact also. 


I'm so sorry to hear about your principal. That is really sad news. I wonder if your school will have some kind of memorable service for them? That might help to process things and help accept what has happened.

things sound really tough for you but as others have also said its a positive that you can recognise that your not coping.
do you think you could speak to your parents about how your feeling? maybe speak with your gp about getting a referral to somewhere such as headspace that specialise in young people and its also a free service to use.
if your very worried then perhaps going to the ED would be a place to go, your safety is the most important thing here
