Hi @rainfrog , I'm sorry to hear your feelings and thoughts of being a "failure" due to your recent struggles at school. Honestly, when I started reading your post I thought to myself "wow I cannot believe how many times I've heard people go through this exact thing". Feeling the shock during the primary to high school transition is definitely real! I can empathise with you when it comes to feeling loads more pressure and questioning your abilities.
By the sounds of it - you are very intelligent and should be extremely proud of yourself for even getting into an accelerated class. Have you considered that maybe the thing that could be letting you down is your confidence when it comes to certain subjects? From personal experience - when I haven't done so well in a subject it's because I am constantly telling myself "I can't do this" and have eventually started to believe it so I don't apply myself as much. Some of us just don't have that competitive nature academically and to see so many people in our class competitively performing for the top marks can be quite daunting and off-putting.
Perhaps if you got some one-on-one support for the maths subject from a tutor this could help you get your confidence up and in turn boost your marks? Either way, falling behind in class is definitely not something to hate yourself over, high school is a massive learning experience and the older you get - the more you will realise what you excel at and what you're passionate about.
I hope things get better for you soon, hang in there!
