I'm loving these questions @chicken_wing !
I believe that people are not hard-wired and that we are all capable of learning and choosing the path we want to take. I think of it like this: if someone can be changed by adverse experiences, then why wouldn't they be able to change again in the future? While I believe that trauma can have profound effects on the way someone views the world and how they might react in certain situations, I also believe that people can change these processes with the right support and resources.
I really like the concept of "neuroplasticity", which is the brain's ability to change functionally and structurally through learning and experience. So essentially the brain is constantly changing as we give it new things to deal with!
If you enjoy reading about the effects of adverse experiences and how people can heal and grow from such experiences, I highly recommend the book "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk🤗
