Hey @Green_Ghost!

Thank you for sharing all of this so openly. It sounds like you’ve been doing some incredible work lately, both personally and professional. Thriving in a crisis support role and challenging yourself is no small feat. You should be so proud of how far you’ve come!

It also sounds like you’re grappling with a lot of valid and complex feelings about your therapeutic relationship, and I want to acknowledge how hard it is to navigate that. Therapy is such a personal space, and it’s tough when the dynamic doesn’t feel quite right. At the end of the day, as you would know with your counselling studies, therapy is only effective when the client feels completely open and comfortable to share in that space. If you do not feel that your voice is being heard and valued, it might be worth mentioning this to your therapist and seeing if this is something that can addressed.

Bringing this up with your psychologist might feel daunting, but I think it could really help clarify whether this is something that can be worked on together or if it’s time to consider a new direction. You could try framing it as feedback about how you’ve been feeling in sessions.

From there, you could share specific examples, like needing to frequently repeat your career goals, feeling cut off, or the self-disclosures that don’t feel helpful. You might even mention how much you valued the couples therapist’s approach and how it made you reflect on what you need from therapy.

It’s okay to feel nervous or awkward. But as a future counsellor yourself, you probably know how important honesty is in therapy. A good therapist should welcome feedback and work with you to address it without judgment.

And if it turns out this isn’t the right fit anymore, that’s also okay. It sounds like you’ve gained some great insights from this experience, and sometimes moving on can be the best way to prioritize your growth.

You’re doing so much important work, both within yourself and for others, and I hope you find the support you need to keep thriving 💪❤️
