Thanks all, it's been fun. Good chats were had. Kinda sad that GR is on Mondays when I usually have stuff on EVERY WEEK. Ahh well, another time soon I hope! :) ♥

@stonepixie I'm failing miserably at the whole being an adult with money thing haha. Wanting to move in with the boyfriend this year sometime but at the rate I'm spending money combined with the rate I'm NOT earning it (and won't be earning it at uni) it's looking very sad and far away :(
(While I am capable of sititng down and actually doing some budgeting and saving up and whatnot, I need to be earning enough for it to be feasible in the first place. Since I'm not, my brain just goes STUFF IT and decides I don't need to be as responsible haha)

Right though!! Soooo expensive. I haven't shopped there for a few months but I just had a post-xmas/boxing day sales splurge :D
OMG I DID THAT AT KIKKI K.
I went in planning to spend about $10 on one item, came out having spent SIGNIFICANTLY MORE :S (but I came out with some really handy useful stuff haha). I also love me some Typo.
Also awkard when I enjoy buying stationery AND clothes.. Now we know why I'll miss earning money when uni starts back~ :P

What is one tip you can give to having a great first day back?!
Only one?! Really?! I have to decide?!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?! :O
(nope, not happening)
I'd say be open-minded and energetic and positive and prepared. Get that actual full night of sleep (it might be the only one all year). Start on a good note and with all of this you never know WHAT you'll find (new friends, new club, new experiences, new course, new outlook....)
Also, if you're going to uni - GET ALL OF THE FREBIES YOU CAN AT O'WEEK!! BAHAHAHA! Especially the pens, you never know when you'll need a spare. And if you're NOT into shopping for stationery, this can definitely prepare you for the whole year and then some haha.

Whereas every time I walk into Officeworks (or similar), I have to try REALLY hard to not walk out with a whole bunch of colour-coded binders/books/whatever else I can get my hands on, having spent way more than I can afford! :P

How do you stay organized and on top of things?
Half the time I don't, that's the problem!! :P
But what I do use?
STATIONERY!! :D
Also I do love using things like google calendar (= phone calendar) and evernote (to write things down and get it off my mind) and all sorts of similar stuff.

@OrangeOliver well lets just say I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed right, so i find it really hard to ask for help with things, I feel like everybody thinks geez thats easy how dumb is this bloke.
@j95 I know EVERYONE says it, but it's so true - if you ask a question about something or ask for help, chances are someone else wants to know it too and they'll love you for it. I do some tutorial-type stuff with first years and half the time the people who don't get it straight away end up doing better in the long run because they actually try and put effort in.
I once spent an hour or so helping a girl who has to drop out of year 11 or 12 or something to have a kid, and was now starting uni a couple of years later. She didn't understand half of the stuff they had to do for a practical because she just never learned the basics that they assumed everyone learned in high school and was SO lost. After I took a bit of time going back to the start (which, granted, for me was VERY basic stuff I learned in like year 8) she was so much happier because she actually understood. She was so embarrassed at the start when I was asking things and she had to keep saying she didn't know, but it was worth it in the end. She was in one of the classes I led, so it also meant that throughout the semester I chatted to her once in a while to see how she was going and usually offered to help explain things more if she didn't seem to get it straight away.
As much as I personally HAVE always been a total nerd-smartypants-whatever and get stuff super easily, I definitely understand that not everyone's brain works the same way and that I'm just kinda lucky. I also think that just because some people don't understand things easily it doesn't mean they're dumb at all - sometimes they're just not being taught the way that they'll understand it best, or their brain is better at other things. In the scheme of things, it's no big deal.
Also, to add to my mammoth post.. A lot of the time AS someone who is a total nerd, it's even harder to ask questions. I have no idea where I was going with this bit, but it was significant somehow. Might remember later. But eh.
Also also - studying is about YOU learning things - so bugger what people think if you ask a question, ASK AWAY! :)

Stress can creep up throughout the year, what can you do to prevent it or cope with it?
I definitely think aforementioned me-time and organisation and such is gonna be the go. Also cuddles. Lots of cuddles. Cuddles make stress go away. Handy things about having a significant other of some form.. :P

Based on a bunch of other comments, another rather important goal I forgot to add is definitely: SURVIVE!
And I suppose I'll have to play it by ear a little to achieve that one, but I defnitely plan to include me-time (blobbing/sport/whatever else) to get this one done. :D

How are you going to ensure that these goals happen?
Follow goals #3 and 4 to achieve #1 and 2 haha!
Aside from that though, I think I'm just gonna need to consciously try to do more productive stuff and less blobbing-around-doing-nothing-much unless I need it. Also have tidy work space and stuff like that. Ya know, the usual. Try try try. :P

For the first time in a long time I'm not studying anything this year! I'll be undertaking training for a new job which I'm really excited about, but no actual study. It's kind of refreshing being able to come home from work and not have to worry about assignments.
@Same @KitKat! So excited to have my free time back :)

But I'd have to agree with both of you, I've been enjoying thato ver holidays - not keen to go back to having assignments!

What are your school/uni/study related goals this year?
1. FIRST CLASS HONOURS. Or at least H2A (next step down), but preferably first class :D
2. What I'm working on will HOPEFULLY be enough to combine with what my supervisor has already done for a paper. That means I'd be an author on a legit scientific paper - WOO! (That's big news if I DO decide to continue with research or anything sciencey!)
3. Actually start assignments on time (hah, everyone says this every year.. but the all-nighters are getting harder and harder) and put more effort into them and such. Probably required to achieve #1 unfortunately ;)
4. Be more organised with stuff - my lab notebooks in previous placements left a bit to be desired so I really need to bring things up to scratch this year haha.

@Bee I could tell last year that I was putting WAY less effort into things than I like to (and just doing what I needed to) because I just could not be bothered anymore - I think partially from the 'not-sure-I-want-to-do-this' point as well as from the 'eugh-too-much-studying' point. I'm hoping that something different this year (honours) helps change that up a bit :)

What are you studying this year? Are you excited about the subjects?
Well my degree is pretty general (and also pretentious at the same time):
Bachelor of Sciences (Honours), an Enhanced Program for High Achievers
..That basically means we're a whole bunch of smarty-pants kiddies who get an office and do extra stuff on top of a normal BSc, including doing research placements throughout the degree.
I majored in Molecular biosciences, I love all the human medical stuff and genetics and whatnot. Small things biology.
This year my honours is set to be working on a really cool therapy for bowel cancer using bacteria and special genetic-y type molecules - which is pretty damn cool.
So I am at least excited about what I'll be doing this year, even if the nitty gritty stuff (assignments/the topics we still have to do during honours) will be less fun!

@Bee @delicatedreamer I'm kinda in that club at the moment, no idea what I'll be doing next year. My degree leans HEAVILY towards research and if I had to decide now - I probably wouldn't go into it. I'm still giving myself the option to decide honours was actually great and then continue down that path, and I want to finish it for the sake of finishing it, since I'm nearly done. Everyone keeps asking me what I'll do and I'm like weeellll I'm seeing how this year goes! Yay for #nofutureplans ;)

Have you missed school? Why/Why not?
I always USED to miss school heaps back in the day, mostly because of my friends. I think I haven't missed uni that much over these holidays for a few reasons.. Firstly, having gone straight from high school to uni I've essentially been studying constantly since I was 5 years old. That's approximately 3/4 of my life. Pretty sure it's well and truly time for a break! Secondly, last semester got pretty stressful for a number of reasons and so I'm not really sure how keen I am to go back to what I know WILL be a moderately stressful year :/
I have, however, missed it too in some ways I suppose. Not so much the friends, beacuse I see my friends more outside of uni than at uni now (I'm studying totally different stuff to everyone else :( ), but a lot of the things I said I'm looking forward to would be reasons I have sort of missed it.
I think knowing that this is the last year of this degree is definitely helpful!

What are you looking forward to this year going back to school/TAFE/uni?
Well....... A few things I guess.
1. Once this year is over, I'll have finished my bachelors degree (WITH honours)! Both super scary and super exciting! :D
2. While work is good for money, I'm not exactly passionate about selling mexican food - so I'll be happy to get to doing things I find a little more interesting and stimulating
3. I know heaps of people starting first year this year, so I'll get to spend time with a whole lot of people who I, until now, have really never been able to spend time with
4. I'm doing CANCER RESEARCH, BITCHES! It's just so fun to say, makes you feel so badass :P
5. It probably will be good to get some sort of routine going again, as much as I don't WANT to get up early..
6. With the start of school/TAFE/uni comes the start of other things that I do that haven't been on over the holidays! Yay! :)
