Hey @lowpolyrat

Intrusive thoughts are awful, I am so sorry to hear how intensely you’ve been having them! I understand this would be distressing and difficult to experience. Thanks for being so brave and sharing about it! We are all here to support you and listen 😘

From personal experience, getting a mental health care plan might be helpful for you (saves money haha). Headspace is fantastic to explore.

Have you looked at this APS website for a list of psychologists? You can select what mental health concerns you would like addressed, and where the psychologist/counsellor would be located!

How are you feeling currently?

Sometimes I’ve found that mindfulness practices and journaling helps with the distress, but everyone is different! If you are interested in some self-care for intrusive thoughts, this might be helpful for you! 😁

Hey, thanks for sharing.

Sorry to hear that you have been struggling with intrusive thoughts and that it has been worse than previous times you've experienced it.

Controlling thoughts takes a long time and a lot of work. And I still don't know how to control unhealthy or negative thoughts I have myself. But I think it's important to make sure you are thinking about yourself in positive ways.

Hope you are feeling better and it all slows down.

I don't know too much about OCD, so I'm not sure how much of what I say will be relevant.

Do you have an self-care you can give yourself when the intrusive thoughts are louder and more often? Ways to calm down.

Hey @lowpolyrat

Welcome to the Online Community!

Thank you for being so open and honest with us about what you have been experiencing. It can take a lot of strength and courage to do, and isn’t easy so you should be really proud of yourself for taking that step.

I am sorry to hear that you have been experiencing intrusive thoughts and that they have been amplified. It is understandable how hard this must be for you and I am really glad that you have reached out for some support.

I was wondering if you have been able to open up to anyone else about this or if you have any supports in your life such as a family member, GP or Mental health professional that you might feel comfortable sharing this with?

I was also wondering how long you have been experiencing these intrusive thoughts for? You mentioned that they have amplified by 10X and I was wondering if anything has happened recently or if anything else is going on in your life right now?

I wanted to share this article with you about dealing with OCD. I also wanted to share a weekly wellbeing event we had about living with OCD which you might find helpful to have a read through.

We have sent you an email to check in, could you please keep an eye out for that?

Take care and we hope to hear back from you soon.

Hi Bailey!
thanks so much for the articles and event. Think i've been experiencing intrusive thoughts for a few years but this round of them (idk the right word to use haha) popped up a few weeks ago. Not sure if its really amped up by 10x but was def more intense than the last thoughts i had.

Started looking for a psychologist yesterday, might see if i can book an appointment with the Headspace near me or might try find an ocd specialist near me if i can. Should probs see my GP first to figure out what i should do so might try figure out a plan to do that and then see a psychologist.

Found managing techniques on youtube bc i was desperate so tryna use those and think its made the thoughts go quieter i guess but they're still lingering in the back of my head and are distracting bc i dont want them

thanks so much for the message again, have a great day 🙂
