Hi @cow_rider

I hope you're well today.

I'm sorry to hear that you're not enjoying your subject and have been placed there without choice. I have been in a similar situation, and I know it's not fun.

But as suggested above, I highly recommend speaking to your year level co-ordinator, teacher, or the wellbeing team at your school as that's helped me in the past. A little tip though, I suggest writing down the reasons why you want to change and the outcome you would like before speaking to someone just so that you can clearly communicate with them on the day. I think this might be useful especially because it's a new school and it can be challenging approaching someone.

Also, I'm sorry to hear that your classmates keep denying your story. I understand that can be quite frustrating, especially if you have to keep redoing it. Have they given you any feedback as to why they are rejecting your story? If not, would you be comfortable asking them or your teacher for some constructive feedback and maybe for one of them to sit down with you and show you areas of improvement?

Let us know how you go. I hope that's helpful. All the best 😊

Hey @cow_rider

It is excellent that you are reaching out for support. 🙌

I deeply understand where you are coming from, and school can be challenging and unfair at times, especially when you are new to a school; things can take some time until everything has settled.

As someone who has gone through many courses and units I hated, I can say that you don't have a choice in certain situations. Still, you can find a way around it by reaching out to your school and letting them know that this is having a significant impact on your mental health, not only in terms of friends but also doing something you are not passionate about; I am sure they will understand and help find the best possible solution.

The first step is to raise your concerns with either your teacher, coordinator, counsellor or even the student support team, which most schools do have some student support department.

Some other things that might benefit you or find useful are these school/study articles by ReachOut that discuss a range of topics, and you might find something that resonates with you at the moment or helps your schooling life down the track.

I want to ask what you have tried and if that helped, or maybe you are unsure how to proceed.

We are all here to listen and provide our helping hand, so don't hesitate to come back with an update or if you need further help.

I hope the above helped in some way, and those school problems do pass by quickly, so try to stay hopeful and positive. 😊

Hey @cow_rider ,

I'm so sorry to hear how much you hate this subject. I can only imagine how difficult starting a new school is, let alone having to be placed in a subject with no friends and in something you do not find interesting (probably because of numbers in other groups!).

If it is really affecting you in a negative way, I'm wondering if you would consider speaking to your year level co-ordinator or the wellbeing team about how unhappy you are in the subject and that you'd really prefer to do something else? Correct me if I'm wrong, but is ILP a little like choosing your electives, say cooking, woodwork etc? That is, your individual learning plan?

Student voice is a huge thing in schools nowadays, so I hope your voice will be heard through this.

Do you think you would consider raising your concerns with the school? Or do you have someone you think would support you in this?

Please know you are not alone. I hope you find a way that is beneficial for all. I look forward to hearing how things go for you.

Welcome back!
