I am soo sick of uni

I am sooo exhausted cause of uni. It feels like my work never ends. Plus I am preparing for an external exam as well whilst doing uni. Things have been hectic and really difficult. Worse, I have no friends to confide with.

Hi @Thistle_Fly,

I agree that uni can be a very stressful and overwhelming experience. Especially considering how many deadlines there are and the high expectations we can have to achieve high marks. Sure, I was super passionate about what I was studying but there were times where the workload was unrealistic and made me not want to attend class or watch lectures.

Given that you're at uni and also preparing for an external exam it sounds like you're a very determined and strong-willed individual. That is something to be proud of as uni continues to be a big challenge for so many people. 💚 As a few people have mentioned, being organised is one thing you can do to be more intentional with your time. Something I used to do was plan my week ahead each Sunday evening so that way I had no unexpected work and could pencil in time for myself.

That brings me to the importance of self-care. Practicing it helped me come back to each task more focused and concentrated. As self-care can look different for everyone, I'm wondering if there's anything you can do (no matter how big or small) to be kind to yourself? This can be at the beginning or end of each day, or even throughout.

Sending hugs!

Hi @Thistle_Fly,

I just wanna say that I can relate to you so much about being exhausted and sick of uni. Uni can really make you feel like no matter what you do, the workload doesn’t end. And on top of that, you still have to balance other responsibilities. It can really feel taxing and frustrating and sometimes we just want uni to stop.

I can see that uni is very important to you and that you’re trying your best to achieve your goals. You should pat yourself on the back because you’re doing great. I understand that it’s easier said than done but don’t forget to take care of yourself. Pause for a moment to breathe and relax. It’s okay.

@starhlights shared many great tips already so I want to share one I did. One of the things that helped me go through uni was keeping a firm schedule on until when I study each day. For example, during the day, I try to finish as much as I can but as soon as it hits 6 or 7 pm, I save all my work, close my laptop, and leave my desk. And then I go on and do a hobby that can relax my brain. Gaming was my go-to at that time. Doing this routine really helped me stay grounded and keep myself from burning out.

I wish you all the best at uni and for the external exam that you’re preparing for. I hope you get the results that you want. Sending you lots of hugs and love 🤗💙

Hey @Thistle_Fly !

Thanks for opening up here, I'm so sorry to hear that things have been feeling so rough for you lately. I really feel you! Uni is so incredibly tough at the best of times, and is just even worse when you've got other things happening too. Balancing full time study with work, other commitments and general life stress is so much harder than I think most people realise. All of this is even harder when it feels like you don't have support people to vent to or lean on aswell.

It's really great that you've reached out on here just to vent, and I hope it helped even just a little bit. I know it might not feel like it, but it sounds like your doing a fantastic job of keeping a lot of different plates in the air right now - uni, prepping for your external exam, etc. It might be super challenging, but you're doing your best, and really, that's all you can do.

ReachOut is here for you, I'm sure that we'd all be happy to listen if you feel like sharing some more.

Take care, I'm sending lots of good vibes your way 💕.

Hello @Thistle_Fly,

I want to let you know I am in a very similar situation with lots of uni exhaustion and having to prepare for an external exam (personally I'm looking into medicine, I would love to hear what you want to get into as well).

I take that you really care about pursuing your ambitions and making your dreams come true and I assure you that all this effort will pay off. I understand that this is incredibly hard and there is no doubt about it, but through this experience, you've grown into a more resilient person and you will be so good at what you want to get into. It must feel tough to feel sick of uni, but maybe you can relax yourself when in your spare time. Please take some time to detox and forget about your worries – listen to music, play/walk with your pet/s, have some time for recreation or exercise. Although your studies might make this a little hard, it's so important to focus on what makes you happy and gives you excitement.

Hopefully you can get a little boost and feel happier with a little weight off your shoulders. I'd love to hear more about how you are feeling with uni, I'm sure there are others how may be feeling similar stress, if you'd like to share.

Hey thankyou so much I really needed to hear this. I am looking to get into medicine as well as I would love to be a psychiatrist. However, trying to do really well in uni whilst also preparing for GAMSAT has just been difficult. My GPA so far at uni hasn't been great at all so far (I am half way through my degree) because of my really bad mental health. My mental health has been a bit better this year since I think the benefits of taking antidepressants has started to kinda kick in - but still.

It's sooo lovely to meet you. I will stay in contact with you with that's okay with you.

Hi @Thistle_Fly

Thank you for your post. We are glad to have you here with us.

Firstly, I totally understand that university can be exhausting, and when it feels like the work is never-ending, it is completely understandable to feel overwhelmed. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, and when there is so much to do but only so much time, it can be really tough to manage. I have been there too, so I know how draining it can feel.

From my own experience, I have found a few things that help when the workload starts feeling too much:

  • Breaking it into chunks if possible. It is impossible to do everything at once, so try setting small, realistic goals for how much work or how many topics you want to cover in a set time. The Pomodoro technique has helped me a lot — it involves working in short bursts with breaks in between, so I do not feel like I am trying to power through everything at once.
  • Speaking of breaks, try to use them mindfully. Even if it is just a few minutes, getting up for a short walk, stretching, or eating something comforting can make a difference. It will not change the amount of work you have, but it might help make it feel a little more manageable.
  • Consider looking into course-specific Facebook groups or forums to see if you can join or organise a study group. Even if you do not have friends at university yet, connecting with others who are in the same boat can be really helpful. It took me a while to find my people, and it was through study groups that I started forming friendships. I know it can be hard, but you are not alone in this — I believe in you.
  • If things are feeling too overwhelming, check if your university has support services. Many universities have resources, advisors, or student wellbeing teams that can offer guidance or adjustments to help manage your workload. It is always worth reaching out if you need extra support.

I hope some of these tips help, even just a little. Most importantly, please be gentle with yourself — you are trying your best, and that is something to acknowledge. It can be easy to forget when you are under so much stress, but every little step forward counts. Focus on what you can do right now, and take it one step at a time.

Wishing you all the best.
