Wellbeing boost!
Hi lovely RO community!
I've been a little less active on here as of late, so I wanted to jump on and say hey! I've had a tough few weeks balancing usual life stuff like work and uni with chronic illness and mental health flare-ups, which has really sucked. This has been a major reminder for me about how important it is to take quiet time to look after myself and do some self-care.
It seems to me that autumn has finally arrived, and i've been loving the cooler weather change. I'm a big fan of cosy jumpers, and hot drinks, and going for a walk and feeling the cool wind on my face. I've been self-care-ing this week by working on my latest knitting project, which is a cardigan. I love knitting all year round but find working on thicker projects like jumpers or cardigans extra satisfying when it's cooler because they keep me warm when i'm working on them too! It's definitely something that I find really soothing.
I've also been spending lots of time leaning on friends and family for self-care this week too. It's so hard to be vulnerable with the people in your life when things are tough, but it's also so worth it. It's lovely to just be really present in the company of the people you love too.
So! I'd love to hear from you all about how you've all been doing, what you've been up to, or what you've been doing for self-care lately. Or even something that's been bringing you joy. Looking forward to hearing from everyone 💛🌻.

Hello @Scarlet_Locust
It is so important to take a time out when we need it and focus on revitalising ourselves! Well done for knowing when to take a break and looking after yourself 💜
It's so cool that you've been knitting a cardigan! We would love to see it when it's complete if you'd like to share it! I'd love to learn to knit, myself, I just haven't worked up the motivation yet. It's also so important to spend time with friends and family as part of self-care! I hope you've had a great chance to connect with all your loved ones lately.
Lately I've been trying to watch every single James Spader movie and finding some new songs to listen to, which has brought me a lot of joy. I look forward to continuing my movie marathon and jamming out 🥰
Thank you so much for this lovely reply @Green_Ghost 💜, I will absolutely update the community with a pic once the cardigan is finished!
Wishing you good luck for your quest for movie and music enlightenment! Getting into new music and media is such a nice way to refresh ☺️
Hey @Scarlet_Locust,
This is such an awesome post. Thanks for checking in. 💛
At the moment my biggest challenge is maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I've got a lot of commitments and it can be tricky penciling time to rest and recharge. However, I've been doing my best to stay ahead of this by regularly scheduling in self-care activities in my weekly planner.
My self-care activities usually involve going on walks outside, going to the cinemas, and catching up with friends (whether in-person or over the phone). I also do my best to maintain a consistent night routine and found it's been helpful in waking up refreshed.
I'm also keen to read what everyone else has been up to! 😊
Thanks @SteadySteps 💜.
Work-life balance is forever a struggle!! These are also some of my fave self-care activities too - and super impressive that you have a consistent night routine, this is something i've always struggled with 😂
Hi @Scarlet_Locust, great to hear from you! It seems that you have a lot going on with your work and uni on top of dealing with chronic illness and mental health flare-ups. Despite these, it’s fantastic to see how well you’re taking care of yourself! Sometimes, life gets so busy we forget to take care of ourselves, so it’s really great to see you taking time and doing things for yourself.
I also love the cooler weather! I’ve always preferred the cold to the hot weather, so these past few months were nothing short of gruelling. I’ve been loving being able to wear my sweaters and jumpers again. And knitting in this season is perfect! I feel like the cold weather is really motivating to work on these kinds of projects. I haven’t crocheted in a while but the last project I was working on was gloves for a friend. I need to get back to it soon 😆
It’s great to hear that you’ve been leaning on your friends and family for self-care. I agree with how difficult it can be to be vulnerable with the people in your life; it requires immense trust in yourself and them. Being able to open up to the people you love and receive the support you’ve been seeking (or more) makes everything lighter.
As for my own self-care, I’ve been having weekly hangouts with my friend where we go eat out after a day full of classes. Food always makes us feel better, so trying out new food places has been our way of de-stressing. Our weekly hangouts are what I look forward to each week and the promise of seeing each other at the end of the day is what keeps me motivated to go to my classes.
With that said, it’s so lovely of you to update us on how you’ve been doing and also to check up on us 🥰 All the best! 💙
Thank you for this lovely and affirming reply @Calming_Waves 🥰.
So glad to hear that you've been loving the cold weather too. Gloves are a great winter project, - I made a pair last year and am so excited to finally wear them!!
Your self care post-class food ritual sounds so nice! Totally agree that there's nothing better than good food and company when you're deep in the soup of study. I love this idea of regularly trying out different places too - i've started doing this with a particular friend too and it's a such great way of keeping things fun and exciting 😊
