Customer Service

Hey everyone,

I've just gotten a new job, and it's so much better than my old job but I now have to do customer experience. I've only served customers once but I found it SO extremely stressful. I think it was also partly because my hearing isn't the best and I don't know the menu too well so I was struggling to hear what the customers were asking for. I find this part of the job genuinely so stressful, so I was just wondering if anyone had any tips of coping with the stress of customer service? I'm going to familiarise myself with the menu, but it's also just the aspect of talking to complete strangers and making sure that they're happy.

Thank you 🙂

Hi @Mango_Dove, congratulations on your new job! Customer experience can be super daunting. How did you manage the stress at your previous job?

I have had a few roles where I had to talk to customers on the phone and I would regularly freak out because the line wasn't very good and I couldn't hear them. But most people were quite understanding when I apologised and gave them a reason.

Hi @Mango_Dove I'm so glad you're liking your new job more than your old job - that sounds really promising. I don't have any experience in customer service so I'm sorry I can't offer guidance there, but I completely understand why it would be hard - customer service seems like it can be stressful, and starting a new job is always a steep learning curve.
Is there anything that might make it easier for you when you're taking customers' orders? Do you feel like you could talk to your manager about what might help?

I think it's totally normal to feel anxious when starting a new job, but I really hope it all goes well for you.

Welcome back!
