Hey everyone! Happy hump day! I hope this week has been going well so far but if not do not fear it’s all downhill from here 😊 Big thank you to @Lost_Space_Explorer5 @for starting this SLOW MO GR Been loving everyone’s responses so far and personally it’s been making me think a lot more about what being kind to myself really involves and it’s impacts. I have a couple more questions to keep the convo going, so here they are: What kind of skills should we keep in mind when trying to be kinder to ourselves? How might we tackle resistance or obstacles to being kinder to ourselves? looking forward to hearing your answers everyone @Milkninja222 @musicfan_xo @scared01 @A_Friend

@CurrentlyTurningOut its no problem at all :) Telling her how you feel (through a note or otherwise) sounds like a good idea, she might not even realise how she's coming across if she is preoccupied with something else. But yes for now, I hope you have a happier afternoon and some well deserved me time :)

Hey @Saltwaterdreamtime I totally know what you mean when you get completely stuck on something that was totally awful and makes you wish you could just erase your mind of it. I get really anxious about these things when it happens and I find it hard to stop thinking about it. I feel like my mind can be my worst enemy like why do i keep reminding myself of something so ugh! from my personal experiences the things that help me the most are things that take a lot of mental work and make me tired. I'm not a major exercise person (but maybe you are so there could be more options for you to burn some energy or what I like to call overthinking power) so i'll take myself on a long walk and listen to music or an intense podcast that requires me to really think about it/engage. I also find talking to someone about their life/problems helps, my mum is a great talker and if you get her started on something she will probably continue for as long as you need her too lmao. So i might go chat with her about whats going on with her kind of thing. Drawing/painting/reading/cleaning my room and all those kind of things also help. Basically i just want to distract myself and make sure i'm tired and can go straight to sleep hope some of this is at least a bit helpful! But yeah I feel you and hope you get through this next week

Hi @CurrentlyTuningOut, I'm so sorry to hear you've been feeling this way :( It really sucks when a family member seems to be mad no matter what you do. It's really good youve been helping out around the house and trying to make things easier for her regardless of her reponse, the situation sounds really tough and the fact youre still doing that sounds like you really care and are trying your hardest. Personally, if i've had conflict with anyone in my family it usually is because theres something else happening I am unaware of thats impacting them negatively and they end up being a lot more stressed and on edge than normal. Has this happened before with your mum or is it the first time she's been this way towards you? Do you have any siblings or other family members/family friends you could chat about this to who know but you and her? Maybe if you can chat to someone they might have a better idea of what might be going on, alternatively depending on how youre feeling and how you and your mum normally are you could try asking her directly? But i think for now maybe try to give yourself time to chill out and do something nice if you can. hope youre okay!!!!!

Hi @MemphisBelle! I'm turning 24 this year too! Although I can't say I know exactly how you are feeling some of your message really resonated with me because I too, worry about when I leave the "young adult" bracket. But I think we are definitely still young adults and still have a lot of time to explore! I'm not sure if you would find this helpful but I spoke to my mum and older cousins (26-30 age range and my 30 year old cousin says he definitely still even feels a bit like a young adult) a bit about this and that sort of helped me put into perspective how theres actually so much more time and freedom to explore interests and life than i was telling myself. Personally, i feel the concept of "Age ranges" really has changed a lot in the last couple of decades as things that were seen as "rites of passage" of certain age groups seem to be happening a lot later than our parents generation eg people going to uni before joining the workforce/ moving out of home/having children/getting married etc like the views on these things have changed a lot and are not so strict giving us a lot more freedom to work out what works for us best (in my opinion) I hope this helps but I know what soothes my anxiety about ageing might not be universal All the best!!!
