Hey Everyone,
To share a brief of my story, I lost my best friend/boyfriend to brain cancer at the age of 14. The last maybe six months has been pretty hard because I have been on a journey of self discovery and asked my mum a lot of questions as I don't recall most of my teenage years due to mental illness.
Anyway, it has been 4 years since I lost him and feel like it has only just hit me like a hurricane now. I know we can experience grief at different stages but four years later is a bit much? Has anyone else experienced this? It is frustrating because I have not self harmed in about three years but have in the past few weeks to deal with the confusion.
Thanks for your time.

Did anyone ever teach you what consent means? What does consent mean to you?
I learnt what consent meant pretty much from my parents and hearing about things from police from time to time.
Consent to me means that you have said that it is okay, as long as the other person feels comfortable as well. Also, I believe that both parties need to make a good judgement on if they are both consenting with a decent head, not drunk or under the influence of drugs or peer pressure.

I would say that every teenager looks forward to highschool bwecause they get to put the 'condom on the banana'. My class never got that experience which is a major part of safe sex in my opinion.

I mostly learnt what I know now through experience or the internet. Yeah, they sort of think that ebcause they taught us early, it doesn't apply although it is later in high school we actually put the pen to paper so to speak.

Hello everyone!
How would you describe the sex-ed you got at school? Helpful or not? Where else have you learnt about sex and relationships?
I received more information about sex in year 7 than I did in 8 or 9 as the teacher I kept having 'didn't feel comfortable' teaching us but didn't even bother to arrange someone else. It was somewhat helpful in year 7. I found that this thing on my arm was not herpes, it was a ring worm haha. But in all seriousness, in year 7 it is still all a joke and funny things.
I didn't really learn anywhere else about sex and relationships except from my few friends and relationships. Looking back now, I would have loved to have learnt more about sex due to contracting a diesease.
Safe sex, is always the better option.

What is the media’s influence on people’s body image? Does it differ between males and females?
I stated above, about magazines and photoshop being evil and cruel.
Being a female, I guess I only see one side of it but I guess both genders have their influences from different medias. Eg. male footballers, nude calenders, bachelor pad etc.

Where does the pressure to look good physically come from?
Society to put it in a nut shell. We have people look and judge us everyday for our flaws as well as the 'what we should look like' in magazines. Although we all know that it is Photoshop which can rarely be achieved, we try our hardest to get there.

What is your definition of body image? Do you have positive or negative body image?
I think body image is the way we see ourselves and others. We stereotype body image by skinny, fat, chubby, big bum etc.
I have negative body image because I see all the flaws in myself instead of embracing what I have.

Hey everyone!
The one thing I like about my body is my eyes.
Being a bigger girl all my life, it has always been a thing that I worry about constantly. I have been put on medication due to being at high risk of diabetes but have now managed to go from 120kg to 106kg in a couple of months. I am now learning to embrace my curves and love my body :)

I think what makes me beautiful is the way that I have with words, and can express my feelings to the point of people crying.
-Not sure if this is what makes me beautiful, but its all I could do on short notice ;)

Hey Switch, I have had this many times. I think to actually get it across, every time they asked for money or to go out, I would just say no or simply say, I have no money. That way, they have the opportunity to be like, I will pay or just do something else.

I had a similar experience with my mum and dad. Dad just goes through my bag if I lost something and my mum used to say she never went through my room til I found out she read my journals. I guess just saying you don't see it as okay would be the best option or just be honest about what is in there... Not sure on the exact situation but good luck :)

Prioritize. Determine what needs more attention and when other things need the attention. That is how I am doing it. Getting assignments done, then exam revision then other commitments. I slide sleeping and eating in there somewhere ;)

Hey Nat Rigger, I used to experience this when I saw mine. For me, it was the fact of baring my heart and soul to this person and talking about something that I didn't share with many people. Not wanting to get all psychological on you but it sounds like your body preparing you for the 'fight or flight' response (Google has a bit about this). It is where our body gets us ready to either go into a tough situation or to be able to walk away from it. Maybe to relax more, you could do something you enjoy before seeing her or just reading a book or maybe think of something more comfortable to start the session off with. Hope this helps and good luck! :) Ali818

Hello everyone,
I have been through rough patches for about 2 years now and had depression and self-harming tendencies for about 3 years and was looking for other peoples advice.
I have used helplines a few times but feel way more comfortable using the online chats as it is what I do most of the time living rurally.
I guess I am asking which helplines you have found most helpful as I do have tendencies to feel down later at night and would love to be able to talk to someone, and get into the habit of calling up when I don't feel okay.
Please good experiences only, this would be nice.
Thankyou!

Hey tay,
In regards to your headspace question, I am pretty certain you can use the online service if you are waiting. The people who you talk to on there may not necessarily be who you talk to at an office and all you give is a first name and email address.

Sorry for coming in so late but hi!
i think to get me away from feeling burnt out, I just leave what I am doing and do something relaxing. Like walking, writing or coming in the RO forums (cheesy I know) ;) it helps to get away as well because we come back and can see how much has actually soaked in. Also, naps are good :)

Hey tay,
Like many others have said, there is no need to apologise. It took myself a few years and quite a few threads before I even posted back to help someone else. Your own mental health is important too, and a lot of people are wanting to support you. Well done on being able to reach out to others for help and support.
Hope to see you on the forums.

Hello tay,
It seems like you are having a really hard time. Have you spoken to your GP about what is going on for you? It is so brave to be able to post this in the forums and it seems like a lot of people have given you some great advice.
I have had similar experiences like this, where you feel disconnected from the world or from yourself. Have you tried maybe some relaxation techniques? If you look on the megamenu Apps & Tools, there is a program called smiling mind. I have found it useful even for the 5 minutes a day I tend to use it for.
Writing down what is going on sounds like it helps, even if you don't understand what it says. Sometimes this is what we intend to write down because our mind doesn't make sense and the situation doesn't make sense. Just writing this down is a good starting point because we can re-read it and make connections (if needed) to different things. Also, it doesn't matter if you can't draw. I myself cannot draw to save myself (stick figures person) but find it theraputic.
Hope this helps, tay. Stay strong and keep hope :)

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the suggestions. I have been keeping busy and surrounding myself with family so I have been coping.
The medication is starting to settle now so it isn't so bad.

does anyone have any tips on how to stay optimistic in these short periods of time where you can't really change anything??

Hey concernedmama,
this sounds like a difficult situation you are going through and it can be hard to cope with.
being a teen myself and having been through similar things, it was always good when my parents reassured me they aware always there for me even if it seemed like I didn't care or that I was too 'removed' to acknowledge. Love is one of the best things to give and reassure your step daughter of. if nothing seems to work, maybear give her time and space and she will open up on her own.
good luck.

Hey Snuffles,
i have also had this experience when my best friend passed away from cancer at the age of 14. Some say it is to look over us and some say it it's to try to communicate or tell us something. Keep an open mind and you never know :)

Hmmm... 5 random things about me: 1. I am homeschooled 2. I absolutely love flying on planes 3. I have been to more mental-health related events than I have school functions 4. I moved out, I am completing year 12 and planning a wedding all in one year 5. ReachOut.com saved my life :)
