@Sap0 it's interesting how you describe depression like being in a box and I completely agree! You just become so short sighted, focusing on the things that make you miserable. Also great advice on resting. I typically find that I'm kicking my self for taking time off and watching a show or movie. Giving yourself is really necessary to recover! I think the comic is amazing because I think a lot of people are unaware of what depression really is despite having usually experienced it themselves to some degree - so the comic can be a lightbulb moment.

Hey All!
I've been meaning to share this comic for a while since I've come across it.
For a long time I've always had a hard time nailing down what depression felt like for me, other than feeling like I was in a black hole. This is the first thing which I have come across which I have found to reflect what it was like for me, able to express it in a much more elegant and somehow funny way. http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com.au/2011/10/adventures-in-depression.html
What do you guys think?
Sorry if this isn't the right place for the post ><, I wasn't too sure on which sub-forum would be most appropriate.

1. What was your most embarrassing hair style you ever had?
For me it'd be the bowl cut which I had till around 15...
2. What are you grateful for?
Having close friends who I can talk to about anything and who can always make me laugh.
3. If you could see 24 hours into the future what would you do with this ability?
Live normally, boring IMHO, but what is a life without surprises? 4. What makes you laugh?
Avatar! I've watched it sooo many times but it always gets me.
5. What's one thing you do to feel better when you are feeling STRESSED ?
Belt out some tunes

Sorry for the late response, had to run and get some other stuff done.
@N1ghtw1ing: At the end of the day, that is what I think religions ultimately try to provide, ideals on how to live. I'm glad that you have been able to discover your own by experience and the collective experiences of others Thanks again to the mods for hosting!

Sorry to hear that N1ghtw1ing. How has your religion helped you deal with a bad experience? It's provided comfort in some of the dark times, when family members have been near the brink to bring some meaning to life that there is something more.

How does your religion or beliefs impact your everyday life and the decisions you make?
@KDSyd: I totally agree! The core teachings of religion seem to boil down to the same thing- love thy neighbour

@N1ghtw1ing: Good point, the onus should be on the individuals not to judge rashly or to prejudice an entire group. However, I think that although that is how we should all act - with understanding and truth seeking intentions- we can be swayed by the media, consciously or not, when it is something that constantly bombards us over a long period of time.

I agree with m-y93, Australia has great religious freedom, which is reflected in the public policies. On the otherhand the media, I think anyway, instills a lot of animosity towards some religions, especially the Islamic faith which makes us, as a society, somewhat more fearful and close minded.

My parents are quite devout Buddhists and sometimes do put some pressure on myself and my siblings to adhere. But, to be honest I don't think it is something that can be forced, you believe or you don't...

Some interesting q's and responses in here! I was brought up in a Catholic school, while being somewhat agnostic or Buddhist leaning which lead to some interesting scenarios. My school was great in that the teachers and brothers never pushed any doctrine. Although I never felt directly threatened I did feel pressured when I, out of the majority of my school and friends, would sit out confessions, mass and different other events.

@DD: I love this one. Sometimes we get so bored staying at home, but because of this boredom we loose any motivation to go anywhere. Going outside has always been the best for a energy boost!

@DD: Love your point about not continually hanging around the same people. I love my sisters and my cousins but If I'm constantly with them over a long period we tend to have fallouts, so I try to spread myself around other people and find some time for myself (by doing things like manning the BBQ).
@Pillow : That is a great point that we tend to neglect, our attiitudes and how we conduct ourselves will greatly affect other people. If you're happy and friendly to other people, the sentiment is generally returned :)

Thanks for the responses guys. We'll leave boredom for a bit but will come back to it later on in the session. For now...
Last week we talked about strained family relationships over xmas. The same can be said over the holidays if we spending lots of time together, or have different expectations of each other and how to spend the holidays. How can we make sure we take care of our relationships as well as ourselves this summer?

Yeah it's not easy dealing with boredom and it does seem inevitable over any long summer holiday. @DD and Chonty: Immersing yourselves in your hobbies is a fantastic way to go about beating boredom!

Thanks for joining us Chonty :) After the initial rush of excitement to start the holiday’s boredom usually kicks in as we aren’t used to having so much free time. How do you deal with the boredom? This always happens to me! I'm alwas pumped up for the holidays, go to parties at the start and then things just seem to die down and I find myself with so much free time that i just don;t know what to do! It's at this point that I try to hang out more with mates and do something more active to get the blood flowing.

Great advice DD. It can be hard at times, but if we prepare and stop emotions from taking over we can stop ourselves from taking unnecessary risks.

Drinking in moderation and distancing ourselves from those dicey situations, especially when we have been drinking seems to be the key points in staying safe.
Summer and parties can bring about lots of sex, but there are consequences if we don't do it safely...
Contracting an STI is a bummer on so many levels – not only does it affect our physical health, it can affect our mental health too. What are some ways to protect yourself from STIs this summer?

@Pillow : Swimming when you're drunk is deinitely the smartest thing to do ... That's a good move Pillow, you always have to be a bit careful when it comes to what you're drinking.

My mate had a house party for his 18th which was pretty sweet but a group of gate crashers caught wind of it and were coming to join. This led to a confrontation between the two groups which turned into a brawl. The best thing to do in this situation is to keep a level head (bit hard when you're drunk!) and if you realise that you're intoxicated remove yourself from the situation you'll only make matters worse!

@Myvo : That sounds fantastic! Not only cheaper but the chocolate will be amazing! Over the summer holidays parties tend to be wilder and involve more drinking and even drugs. Are there any strategies that you use or could use to stop being peer pressured in these situations?
That's great advice Myvo. Who you hang around with has a massive influence on what you will do, so choose wisely!

There's so many things about how this world works which are so fascitnating! @DD: Hey :) Thanks for joining us. I hope your holidays get better from here as well. @Pillow: Thanks for joining us buddy! Holidays can be rough in that there aren't enough things for us to do or keep us entertained or distracted. I hope you can talk it out here tonight and find some strategies tonight to help you deal with it.

@Myvo : Not at all dude! I spent my summer a couple of years back working at Subway to earn some cash over the summer. There is a really great sense of freedom you get when you start earning your own money and not have to rely on your parents anymore. Where abouts do you want to go overseas?
