Thanks everyone, I just remember how good it was to read posts where people were getting better and that it did help to see there was light at the end of the tunnel. :) Delivering the foal was the most amazing experience ever!!! Can we upload pictures on here? because I'd love to show him to you :)

I wanted to let you know that things can get better, I know myself how hard it is to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I remember sitting in a headspace reception once and someone was filling on one of those depression questionaires and I saw her marking the low end of the scale for everything. I was shocked, because to me that didn't seem possible, because to me the high end of it had just become, well, normal. But a few weeks ago I was sitting in my psych's office filling in one of those and for the first time ever I myself was ticking the low end for most of the questions, I'm not saying I'm 100% better, I have a long way to go till then, if I ever reach there, but I am far better and happier than I ever imagined possible. Exactly a year ago on Wednesday I made my first real suicide attempt, and as a result was referred to our local mental health team. For the first 2 months things were a struggle, I found it really hard to open up to my psychologist, then things went downhil again and we had to involve my parents, something that I swore would never work and I was really against happening. In the end it helped, it didn't really change things much but I think it did stop my mum from pushing me as far as she used to. Gradually things slowly started getting better, I slowly started opening up a bit more and I've worked really hard on noticing the negative thinking patterns I fall into, so that I can recognise them when they happen and try and change them. This Wednesday I delivered my first foal and while it is scary to think that if things had worked the way I wanted them to a year ago I never would have had the opportunity to do this, but I think it also shows how far I've come in the last year. To top it all off first semester this year I acheived my first 2 HD's and I'm hopefully heading for more this semester :)

If you have ever been burnt out, what helped you get out of it? A positive way I found is taking time out for myself, sleeping and just focussing on something else until you feel up to doing what you need to do, because it's not going to get better if you just keep pushing through, it will either stay the same or get worse and you'll find it will take you twice as long to get the work done, whereas if you take a break and come back to it with a fresh mindset then it will be far easier. Hey Rose!! don't you hate it when lecturers don't get back to you!! it is so frustrating!

What are some of things that can cause you to be burnt out? I would say anything that takes time for you to complete -school/uni assignments -family pressure -work commitments -sporting commitments -even catching up with friends, sometimes you just need to take time to relax, time for yourself

So guys what does being burnt out mean to you? Do you find that it is different from stress ? I guess burnt out to me is when I just get really tired and completely over everything I have to do and just want to sleep. I lose, interest, lose the motivation to do stuff and I guess I just stop caring. I think I regularly go through cycles of doing too much, burning out, crashing, then picking myself up and doing it again. However recently I've made the effort when I feel myself heading that direction to take the night off and sleep, so go to bed at 6:30pm if need be!!! I think it is different to stress, I think stress is a feeling/thought that causes me to worry about things whereas burnt out is just a state you reach when it's all just to much?... not sure

Hey everybody!!! Long time since I've been on here! How are you guys feeling at the moment with your exams and assessments? Are there many and are there any that are particularly stressing you out? Well until today I have been really really stressed because I have been so busy that I hadn't had time to do anything, let alone something worth 40% of my mark that was due two weeks ago... luckily I got an extension till today and I have just finished and now just need to edit it!!

So I think all of us at some point in time will have experienced bullying. Whether you were the bully, the one bullied or maybe your friend was. I know when I was in primary school I was the target of our year's bully, and it was really upsetting at the time and even now thinking back about it it is still hard but I have moved on. So my question is how do you deal with it? What are your tips for dealing with bullying, whether it's you or a friend? Who do you go to talk to? Today I discovered that the people I am over here in England with have been bitching behind my back. Unfortunately I saw a text message in which one of the people told the other that I had said something which was completely untrue. And called me immature and "more difficult than a teenager". Seeing this hurt a lot and now I have at least another two weeks where I have to pretend all is fine, because well I have nowhere else to go. Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this?

So I never thought I would be the person to post about feeling homesick, I mean I'm never overly happy at home so why would I miss it?... But I am currently over in the UK and what was meant to be a 3 week stay has turned into 3 months. And although I am having an awesome time over here and I am learning so much from being here (I'm training and working so not really holidays), I just sort of wish I was at home. So does anyone have any suggestions to help feeling homesick?

Eurghhhh exams and school, has to be the worst thing EVER!!! :P Last semester I had a week to study for two massive exams and write nearly 3000 words for two essays. Now when I approached it with that attitude I just burst into tears and wanted to give up. But after my overdramatic breakdown that I thought I was allowed to have all things considered :) I sat down and wrote a list of what I had to do. - I started with my revision for my exams and wrote down the lectures I had to review, the ones I had to listen to because I'd missed them, the pracs that were assessed in my exams etc and then set myself a specific amount of time for each. I allowed myself 1 hour for each lecture/prac and then whatever I didn't get to cover, well I just had to go well I've done the best I can but I simply don't have time to do it all. - Then I had to figure out the essays. For one I wrote down an aim of a certain number of words then for the other I broke it up into paragraphs. - I prioritised my day time hours for the studying part because I can write/bullshit more easily than study when I'm tired. - I then drew a schedule for every hour of the week and fitted all that I had to do into it I also made sure I allowed plenty of time for SLEEP, exercise and me time. Somehow I managed to stick to my plan and got 82 and 85 for my two subjects, my best marks ever, so something must have worked!! Breaking it down into little pieces really helped, and also having a list so I could cross off every little thing I did. I also was flexible so if it came to a time where I was meant to be doing one thing but didn't feel up to it I would do swap it with something I was doing another time. I sure went through a lot of whiteout that week!

I get really busy at times trying to juggle uni, family, sport etc and I think this is when I get the most stressed. One thing I find that really helps is to write a timetable of your week and what you have to do. I then put in the key things like sleep, uni classes I have to attend and then of course travel times. Once I've done that I then try to fit everything else in and of course make sure I put some time in there for ME. I guess I get anxious when I start to think about the future and what I am actually going to do. What I find helps is to not focus too much on the future and try and live my life as it is at the moment and hope that things will figure themselves out. I know they may not but worrying about them isn't going to change it!

Hi Kiki I am in a similar position to you, I am going to finish my degree at the end of this year and as much as I want to keep studying it will take me another 4 years to get where I want to go, which, while I sorta like the lifestyle of a student it doesn't support my horse riding. This means my mum has to pretty much pay for that side of things, which isn't really fair on her. But at the same time there isn't really many jobs out there for someone with my degree so getting a job will be difficult. I think at the moment I am going to apply to keep studying but do it part time so I can still work a little bit to support myself. I think sitting down and talking it through is a great idea and can really help if you are feeling stuck as an outside perspective can show you so much.
