Stimming

Stimming is short for self-stimulatory behavior. Everyone does it, but it's especially common in autistic people and people with ADHD.

It includes hand flapping, spinning and staring at shiny things.

Here is a thread for the appreciation of stimming and sharing of stimming ideas!

Of visual stims or general @Tiny_leaf? I don't really have any favourite visual stims, but those glittery things or timer-style ones that I can shake too are neat. (I love the timers)

Do you have any favourite visual stims?

I'll also have to share pictures of my chewy necklaces! I need to clean them so I can wear them more often (and stop biting my nails)

I meant overall.

My favorites are glitter, tactile stims and pressure stims (I pretty much live under my weighted blanket). Plus anything fluffy.

This is a bigger picture than I expected, but this is what my portable sparkle looks like.

It's small enough to fit in my pocket, and has like four different types of glitter in it!!

Cool!

In general, my favourite stims would be (at the moment) using my tangles as a spinner ring and squishies. Plus body stims like swaying my leg or body and chewing too. 🙂

Those are amazing guys!
Great sketch @Tiny_leaf! I wonder if I could draw that..............

I tap my legs against my chair all the time @N1ghtW1ing! But that's part of my musical ability. I can't help but tap out a beat from songs I love!

Oh yes @N1ghtW1ng!
Putty is the best! Blu-tak is similar, but the non slimy putty is the best for me.

I love blue tack, except for the smell...

@xXLexi_Lou122Xx also I was just thinking, I have/ know of a whole heap of stim toys that can be "hidden in plain sight" at school, like scented pencil-ends and chewy pen lids, would that be helpful in any way?

Also, now I'm not sure if I prefer calling them secret stim toys, stealth stim toys or spy stim toys... So much alliteration...

Yup. The smell is gross.

They need to make a scentless version or something.....

Yeah.
I don't really care if it's a discreet chew toy, as long as its one that cannot be chewd through.
My pencil topper got quite broken at the top...
Ooh! And maybe a flavoured one!
Just the flavour of a chewelry accessory is disgusting...

I'm lucky enough that I chew gently, I'm probably more likely to break a tooth than a chewy..

Someone on the internet somewhere has a chew-review blog that mentions a heap of strong chew toys..

ARK therapeutic has some strong ones I think, especially the kryptobite necklace/ pencil toppers.

Heaps of new chews and squishies, plus a really cool aromatherapy necklace design.

Plus a dragon necklace that isn't new but is cool enough to be worth mentioning.

Cool!
Squishies are pretty good too.
Even if I have the strength in my hands to destroy one if i feel stressed enough....

I... was unaware that squishies could be destroyed like that...

I'm honestly impressed. Smiley Happy

Do you use the foam/ sponge ones, or the weird stretchy ones?

Welp, I do a lot of extreme stimming, mainly chewing my lip or clenching my teeth really hard when I’m in a Sensory overload.... but I also do a lot of staring, I love to chew on things, and I listen to/repeat a particular song. So I guess those are my main stims.. with my starting though, is it stimming if you’re in your own world (Not the nicest world), instead of listening/processing information? Or when you repeat the same song over and over, but its not a very nice song?

I now want a glitter jar too... Imma make one sometime soon!

@Tiny_leaf That's so cool. I love how purple it is... like a magical grape juice. Mesmerising! I'm just going to sit here for a minute and stare at it Smiley Very Happy
