Really been struggling

I'm almost 2 months sober, however that urge to drink is getting stronger and stronger. It's overwhelming and I can't stop thinking about it, my AA group is not helping anymore.

Hey @Jamie2000

I just wanted to check in to see how you are going.

I’m sorry to hear that your urges to drink have been getting stronger, it sounds like you have been trying really hard to stay sober, even by reaching out for support shows just how hard you are trying, and you should be really proud of yourself for this, and for being sober for almost 2 months – we all are.

We can hear how overwhelming these urges have been for you and want to remind you that there are support services and resources out there.

Have you connected with any other participants from AA or a sponsor?

If you need some more support, ADIS is available 24/7 and is a free service that provides support from experienced counselors. Lives Lived Well also provides some support services that you may also find helpful.

I also wanted to let you know that if you’d like to connect on another peer to peer forums and connect with other people who have or are also experiencing this, there is one through turning point. They also have online counseling and other resources and tools which you may find helpful.

How are you feeling today?

We are really glad that you have reached out to us for support and want to remind you that we are all here for you and that you aren’t alone.

Hey @Jamie2000 and welcome to our online community! It is so lovely to have you join us here.

Thank you for sharing a little bit about your situation with us. I'm really sorry to hear that your urge to drink has been getting stronger and that your AA group is not helping anymore. It sounds like a lot to be going through on your own so I'm really glad that you reached out to us tonight.

I am mindful of just how hard this must be for you and wonder what supports you have around you right now. Is anyone else aware of how overwhelming these urges are for you? If you are finding things are too hard tonight, we encourage you to reach out to a service like Lifeline or KidsHelpline who can help support you through this tough time.

In the meantime, is there anything that you have found helpful in the past that might take your mind off these urges tonight? Is there something you might be able to do to distract yourself?

Welcome back!
