Hey 897 I just want to comend your bravery for speaking up and seeking help thats the first step towards recovery. I want to remind you that once you start drinking when your sober it makes you feel worse and the cycle is a vicious one. Speak to your parents speak to professionals at your school seeking help is not a sign of weakness. Let them know your feeling this way. I promise things won't always be this way, once you begin to get sober your brains chemicals will readjust and you will begin to feel better.

Dear @897s ,

It sounds so tough to be in a place of isolation where it feels that the only comfort is alcohol.

I hear that you feel you are dying inside. Yet I acknowledge that you want something to change and that’s why you have posted.

Do you have family members you can talk to about how you are feeling?

Alcohol may have a calming affect to begin with, but after, it can leave one depressed, anxious and upset. Have a read of this article about alcohol addiction. There a supports you can access at the bottom of the article including free alcohol counselling.

I read you don’t want to go down this path. Is there someone at school you can speak to?

As hard as it is now, things don’t have to stay this way. There IS support out there.

Hi @897s

Thank you for sharing your thoughts here on the Forums!

It sounds really tough that you want to leave town and not see anyone that you know. I have been there too growing up in a small town and wanting ot leave. These can be deep and overwhelming feelings and you demonstrate courage talking about them here.

I acknowledge that you feel that you are to far gone and I wonder if you thinking about your values and that you have strayed away from them lately. Mental health and alcohol and drugs misuse can still be something that you can get some help with even if you feel that you can't. I encourage you to have a look at the resources and contact details that Chloe-RO sent alcohol addiction

The first step in any recovery is identifying that you want to change and that there are things going on that are not what you want. You have taken the first step already and it's inspiring to see you talking about what's going on for you.

Sometimes we use alcohol and other drugs to cope with things that are going on for us and they mask how we feel. If you did call someone to talk about it they might ask some question to find out why you are drinking and explore working through these thoughts too. We are here also at Reach Out so you can talk to use here about what is going on for you.

Thank you again for sharing your story here!

Take care

Pete-RO
