Safety Planning

At @Ben_RO 's suggestion I have decided to make a safety planning thread. This comes after having made the decision to use beyond blue's "Beyond Now Suicide Safety Plan" app.

I filled in everything in this app a few nights ago to use when I get to that dark and dwerey place we don't like being in.

This can be a place to share inspirational things to help us through these dark times. They could be in the form of Distractions such as Music, Videos, TV shows, Poems, Stories, Movies, etc.

Self-Help strategies such as meditations, ringing a helpline or a friend and talking to someone, going for a walk or run etc.

Some of my emergency contacts listed

- KHL 1800 55 1800

- Lifeline 13 14 11

- Eheadspace 1800 650 890

- Suicide Call Back service 1300 659 467

- 000

One of my distraction techniques is colouring in, which I usually do while watching a movie

What's something you can do to distract yourself from suicidal thoughts?

Wow that's a great idea, @lokifish!!! You're right on the ball with this stuff. That sounds to me like a tangible safe plan. That's awesome

@Bee This is such an awesome thread! Thank you for making it :).

Part of a good safety plan is knowing when to use it. Do you think that sometimes these dark places and thoughts can sneak up on us? If you're writing a safety plan, what are some of the things you can look for that might help you to see those thoughts coming?

LOVE your description and intro for things to add to a safety plan, @Bee!!!

For anyone reading this who isn't totally sure what a safety plan is, or how to make one, click Here to check out one of RO's factsheets on safety plans!

For me, picking up the phone and calling my partner or friends I trust helps me to unwind and get my head back into a happy place

A few years ago when I was in a really dark place I created a "happy box" full of relaxing things to distract me from suicidal thoughts. It sits by my bed and it's got stuff like bubble bath mixture, chocolate, colouring books, craft activities, letters from friends, a photo album full of happy memories... It worked really well for me and I still use it when I've had a rough day and need a pick me up.

This is great! I still use the safety plan I made last year if I need it, but I might also download this app and check it out!! Thanks
