What is the BEST piece of advice you've ever been given?

Hey online community!

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

Could be something small (e.g., "stopping the kettle right before boiling point makes the best tea" supposedly)

OR

Something big and life changing (e.g., my therapist told me once "every time you get anxious about something not worth worrying over just tell yourself it's your silly little amygdala firing up unnecessarily" - and it works for me a lot because it's very empowering!)

Keen to hear all of yours! 🤗

Aha I get told this one all the time @Matcha_Toad😌

I have difficulty following it becuse I tend to worry a lot, especially about upcoming days. However, I am slowly becoming accustomed to focusing on one day at a time. I'm glad this works for you, I'm definitely trying to get it to work for me!

love this @Green_Ghost !! 💕

I think mine would be to treat yourself how you would treat a best friend. If they came over and were hungry, you would feed them. If they were sad you would comfort them and be patient with them. You would tell them they are beautiful and funny and talented because they need to know it and believe it. so why do we struggle to do these things for ourselves? we should all be our own best friends!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻💛

@LilacLeopard14 this is one of my favourite pieces of advice too 🥰.

I think it's incredibly strange how lots of people are able to extend so much empathy to those around them, while simultaneously holding themselves to impossibly high standards! You're right, we should all be our own best friends.

I also love to flip this one around and use it on my loved ones too! Whenever I hear a friend engage in negative self-talk, my favourite thing to tell them is "hey, I don't appreciate you talking about my friend that way" 😂. It totally helps people to reframe their own experiences and feelings in a new way.

I love this logic @LilacLeopard14

I've heard similar things, for example when we say may mean things to ourselves, that 'you wouldn't say that about your best friend' or 'you wouldn't say that about your younger self.'

Exactly, treat yourself how you would treat your best friend! 😇

I'm slowly getting the hang of it, but I have a long way to go for sure!

Welcome back!
