Who is/was your favourite teacher and why?
Hi everyone!
Many of us have a favourite teacher from school or uni who has impacted us in some way. I thought I'd put a post out there to appreciate our favourite teachers and reflect on why they are important to us!
My favourite teacher was my grade 11 and 12 biology teacher. She always believed in me and strived to help each of her students wherever she could. You could tell she really knew her stuff and was passionate about biology, which made her students more interested in it too🌱 I formed such a close relationship with her and now I'm a few years out of school I really miss her!
I'm excited to hear about your favourite teachers! 🤗

I love this idea—teachers who make a lasting impact deserve all the appreciation!😊 My favorite teacher was the one who taught me psychology and disability units at uni. Her unique way of teaching really sparked my passion for the subjects. Her deep knowledge and engaging methods made complex topics accessible and fascinating. 🧠📘 It’s amazing how a great teacher can influence your career path and enthusiasm for a subject! 😊
It's so lovely that you had a teacher who helped grow your passion in the areas of psychology and disability. It sounds like she really valued the topics she was teaching and it's so wonderful to hear that she has helped shape your career path!
I loved my community services/childcare/cooking teacher in highschool because she was so kind and understanding and knew how to care for students, particularly the older ones in upper school.
I also liked a tutor I had in my first year of uni because she was so amazing and kind and funny, and I was the only person to show up to her sessions (except from one other person from time to time). I looked forward to seeing her every week, and felt horrible that no one else wanted to show up.
I love that you've had some kind and fun teachers/tutors. It's sad to hear that not many people showed up to one of your tutor's sessions, but it's also fantastic that you continued to support her! It sounds like you ended up forming a lovely bond with her in the end 🥰
I love this post 💛
I think I was really lucky to have a bunch of really lovely teachers who cared about their students — one of my favourites was my Year 10 and 11 psychology teacher who was not only super passionate about the subject, but also put what we learnt into practice by having us meditate in class to improve our mindfulness, by introducing us to the resilience project (and I still listen to their podcast to this day), and he also generally just tried to make class fun for us with end of term parties etc.
I haven't reflected on my schooling in a while and this was a really lovely opportunity to do that 🥰
Thanks for your reflection @HappyApples! It's so great to hear that you have had some inspiring teachers who have left an impact on you. I agree that teachers who are passionate about the subject make all the difference 🥰
Hey! @Olive1
Stumbled across this post and now i'm reflecting back on my highschool days haha. I'd definitely say that my year 8 english and humanities teacher would be my favourite. She would always go out her way to make the classes more interactive and enjoyable, especially with the in-class events that she would set up (e.g. creative activities, mini-games and hosting class parties). She also loved telling random funny stories from her life and bantering with the class at times too. After experiencing a personal slump during year 7, she was really the teacher that uplifted my mindset about learning and enjoying my time during highschool. My mental health improved, the bonds with my classmates grew and my grades improved significantly. Looking back, I now recognise how important her influence was for my personal growth and development as a highschool student. She really paved the way for me to make the most out of the rest of my highschool years back then and allowed me to become a more open-minded person 💯
Hi @Olive1
This is such a lovely post!
For me I had a few favourite teachers throughout my life, one being my Mum because she taught me in year 6 lol. But for Year 11 and 12, my favourite teacher was my art/photography teacher, she was always so encouraging and wonderful, I always felt like I belonged in her class. It's been 4 years since year 12, and honestly I wish I was still in contact with her, I learned a lot from her and looked up to her. I know from experience that schooling can be so rough, so it really helps when you have good teachers who are supportive of you and are passionate about the subject they teach.

Hi @Matcha_Toad
That's awesome that your mum was your teacher in year six haha!
I love your reflection on your art/photography teacher. I think it's wonderful that she was so caring and acted as an inspiring role model in your life. I completely agree that supportive and passionate teachers can help make school more enjoyable, and I resonate with you wishing you had kept in touch with your favourite teacher!
