HPPD

HPPD stands for Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder. I hope this post finds the right people, in no way do I condone taking substances but this post is about my lived experience dealing with HPPD.

After my consumption of substances my life has changed drastically. Almost every day feels like a blur and as though my symptoms may never go away. I get extreme visual effects almost every day which triggers anxiety and depression. Thoughts get louder and I get a sense of derealisation as if things aren’t real. But it’s not all negative, I have learned to cope with it and it has given me a new perspective on life, how precious each moment truly is. It’s been almost a year dealing with HPPD but I experience time differently now, I take everything day by day hopefully soon I will recover from these flashbacks. It’s a blessing and a curse.

Hey @Pasta

How are you doing today?

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and teaching me about HPPD. It is a very new concept to me so it was so informational to read about it from your POV. Because I don't know much about HPPD, I just want to check on you to see how you are doing. And it sounds like you have developed a system to cope with it which is incredible on your part. And I am very happy that you got a support system as well.

I also wish you the best in your recovery!

Lots of love ❤️

Hey @Pasta it's nice to hear from you again 😊

Thank you for sharing your story with HPPD. It sounds like it has been a long journey for you and that these extreme visual effects have become part of your everyday life. I notice that you have said that you've learned to cope with it and it has allowed you to see the value of every moment. This is an amazing feat which many people try to incorporate into their everyday too. The fact you can see this despite all the difficulties you've described really shows your resilience. Do you find that looking after yourself is one way that you are able to appreciate the moment? I was also wondering if you have a support system that you can lean on in those tough moments?

I wish you the best of luck in your recovery ❤️

I try to look after myself the best I can, I push past my struggles that allows me to appreciate the moments in life I may not have been able to experience otherwise. I have some support systems in place with my local mental health clinic.
