Mental Health Struggles

I’m 14 years old and I’ve recently been diagnosed with BPD. I’m really struggling with low moods, splitting and overthinking. My OCD and AuDHD are also making it more difficult to manage. Can anyone relate and if so, what treatments have worked for you?

P.S. This is my first time using this so please tell me if I’m doing it wrong.

You're overthinking and spiraling, which affects your relationships. Try grounding techniques, challenge negative thoughts, and communicate openly instead of withdrawing.

For relationships, trust your feelings—it's okay to question things. There’s no rush to figure everything out. Focus on what feels right rather than what you think you should do. Doubt is normal, and learning through experiences is part of growing up.

If unsure about your motives, ask yourself if you truly want something or if it's just external pressure. Take things one step at a time.

Hey @iamchappellroan

I’m sorry to head that you’re struggling. It sounds like a lot to be going through. As other people have mentioned, DBT is typically the gold standard for BPD. Apparently, it’s pretty helpful. I know there are some medications that can be used to help BPD, although most of it is off label. As for the OCD, I found deep TMS to be exceedingly helpful. I wasn’t able to take medication due to other conditions. The treatment was lifesaving for me, but I think it only works for about 40% of people. You are young so that might limit what’s available to you unfortunately. My biggest piece of advice is to find a good mental health professional (if you don’t have one already). It can be hard to navigate the world of treatment options without some help.

Hi @iamchappellroan

Thank you so much for reaching out on the Reach Out Forums. It sounds like things have been really tough lately. Adjusting to a new diagnosis is hard and just wanted to say that you’re doing such a brave thing in reaching out and I hope you can go easy on yourself, as managing mental health and neurodivergence is really difficult 😞 For BPD I have found that dialectical behaviour therapy is quite helpful as it helps you work through big feelings and exposure/response/prevention therapy is good for OCD. However, if you see a therapist, they will pick the best therapy modalities for you. If you need online help, there are great websites such as eheadspace or kidshelpline which are good for your age group and can help you work through a difficult time. I wish you all the best and take care of yourself 🩷 I also love your username so much hehe

Hi @iamchappellroan😊

I just replied to your other post, but I also wanted to come here and thank you for sharing your challenges with mental health with us here. It sounds like you’re going through a lot at the moment, and it’s completely understandable that things have become difficult to manage. It’s great to see you reaching out for support and advice from others who can relate to what you're going through.

You mentioned that your BPD diagnosis is recent, and I know that receiving a diagnosis can feel different for everyone. How are you feeling about your diagnosis?

It sounds like you’re at a stage of exploring different treatment options, which is a great step towards support. Are you currently receiving any support for your mental health, or are you looking for something new? If you're interested, we have some information on mental health professionals you can see and a few of the types of therapy options that might also be helpful.

Thanks again for sharing, take care🌻

Hey @iamchappellroan !

Welcome to the community and congrats on your first post, you totally did a great job! Also thankyou for being so vulnerable and sharing with us 🥰. I'm so sorry to hear that things have been rough for you lately, mental health can be so complex, and so so difficult to manage too. Like lots of people, I struggle with mental health too, specifically anxiety and depression, and know just how difficult it can become to cope with even menial daily life things can be. While i don't have experience navigating BPD, OCD or AuDHD specifically, I can imagine that it might feel really intense to be dealing with so many complex and different symptoms.

I'm sorry to say that I can't offer any advice re specific treatments, but wanted to let you know that you're not alone 💜. Please take it easy and be gentle with yourself while things are so tough. I'm sending lots of love and care your way. Feel free to vent some more if you feel like it, we're all here to listen 💛🌻.

PS i love your username, never thought i'd meet my favourite artist Chappell Roan on ReachOut haha 😂.
