Today's mess
Today I nearly had two mental breakdowns. Well, I did start crying, but I controlled it cause I had to go out.
Then I had to message my friend about something. And we briefly mentioned when we used to chat all the time. Like reminiscing. That was nice but sad cause we can't anymore.
Also, I started a new job. And the manager is this older man. And he keeps calling me things like 'little one' and 'gorgeous' and that type of thing. And I have no idea if that's normal. Like if he just does that with everyone and if it's normal for him. And it doesn't make me feel bad. Like it doesn't bother me but I have no idea if that's good or not. And should I be addressing it? Anyway, I'm a bit confused about that.
Anyway, today's been not too great, even though I did enjoy work.
And I finally booked an appointment to get a referral for a blood test, so I can see if I'm low in minerals or iron or blood pressure or something that's effecting my moods.
Anyway, I'm safe and totally fine. If I need to, I'll contact Headspace or KHL.

Hey there @Lemon_Dolphin
Seems like you had a very rough day. I do hope next week would be better for you.
Also congrats on the new job! How is the job usually like? On the manager thing, if the manager is close to making you feeling uncomfortable, it would be good for you to have a private chat with him and to address the problem. Especially the wording is getting beyond the boundries of a manager/employee relationship.
It's also good that you had booked an appointment to check your blood! If you are low on minerals or iron, be sure to eat some vitamins to gain some new blood back!
Hey @Orchid_Mallard today was pretty good which was nice. Mondays are usually pretty good.
Thanks. The work's quite good. Yeah, I might talk about it with someone in person and see what they think. It doesn't really bother me at the moment.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm low on some minerals. So I guess I'll know if I actually am.
Hey there @Lemon_Dolphin
Sorry for the late reply, uni and adulting has been kicking my butt lately..
It's great to see that you have been having a great day! How has you week been? Also were you able to check your blood?
@Orchid_Mallard my week's been ok. Some not so great nights, but I'm dealing with it.
How's your week been?
No, I did get my referral on Thursday, but the place I need to go to get the blood test was closed for Good Friday, then also Saturday and Sunday. I'm assuming maybe tomorrow. So I probably won't be able to get it till Tuesday or sometime after that.
It's good that your week has been decent, and that you have methods in dealing with less than ok nights.
Well for me, this week has been full of preparing for thesis, finishing assignments, and finding jobs. Tough but I have learnt a lot of valuable lessons.
It's good that you got your referral. But I think with the long holiday, Tuesday is probably the day it is going to open. Be sure to check the clinic's opening hours.
@Orchid_Mallard nice. What types of jobs have you been looking for?
Yeah, I have work on and then study, so i might not even get a chance this week. The referral has the open hours written on the back for every place I can get it done which is nice
Well basically, anything that can accommodate with my uni schedule.
Especially that I'm currently doing my honours this year, I have to at least get a 2A grade in order to be able to get into masters in the future.
Yeah, it's good that the clinic is open hours. So that you can go at anytime.
@Orchid_Mallard what are you studying?
Yeah, I'll see if I can go in tomorrow after work. I hate needles. I always feel nauseous and I get scared I'll faint.
I'm currently studying Psychology Honours. Are you studying as of currently?
Also a trick to not getting scared/faint/nauseous when getting a needle into your body for injections or blood test, is to not look at the needle and to focus your attention to something around the room or to hold on to a jacket or something soft. Not sure if it works for you, but it usually works for me.
@Orchid_Mallard yeah, I usually look away from the needle and focus on my breathing. I haven't tried holding something soft before, but maybe I will if I remember.
Hey @Lemon_Dolphin
That sounds like of things to deal with. I hope today has been a bit easier for you. Controlling emotions can be challenging and tends to use up a lot of energy. Try to give yourself some time where you have the freedom to not suppress your emotions.
It’s hard when friendships change. The happy memories become more complicated and nostalgic. I think so long as you’re glad to have had them for the time you did, it’s arguably worth it. Doesn’t make it any less sad unfortunately.
Congratulations on starting your new job! I hope it’s been enjoyable so far. If your okay with the way the manager refers to you then that’s what’s most important. In general, that sort of language is not professional.
Finding an alternative to SH can be difficult. I found that people usually have this one specific thing that works for them. For example, I liked holding ice cubes on the back of my neck. Keep trying different things, eventually you’ll find something that does actually work.
Hey @Lapis_Anteater
Yeah, thankfully today's been a bit better. I did have a bit of a breakdown on my way to work and was feeling a bit weird. But it was fine.
It's been lots of small breakdowns, where I'm about to cry. But I have to just force myself to feel better cause there's people around or I'm on my way to something.
Yeah, it does seem a bit unprofessional but all the other workers kind of seem like they know each other really well. It's almost like they're family. So maybe it's him just trying to make me feel comfortable and open up a bit more. I don't know if I'm really bothered by it or not.
I haven't tried ice yet. But maybe I will sometime.
Thanks
Hey @Lemon_Dolphin
I’m glad yesterday was a bit better! Hopefully things will continue to improve. How are you feeling today?
Going into a newish job can be overwhelming. I’m glad you were able to manage. It really sucks that you have to stop yourself from crying. Is it hard to force yourself to feel better?
It’s good that the other workers are close to each other. If you realise that it does in fact bother you, make sure you let someone know. Even if he has good intentions, if it’s impacting you negatively, it’s still a bad thing.
Ice seems to work well if the urges that stem from anxiety for some reason.
@Lapis_Anteater Today's been ok. A bit of anxiety and feeling a bit down
Sometimes it's easier to calm down. Usually I kind of tell myself I'm ok and I can do this. Like positive self-talk, whether or not I believe it.
Hey @Lemon_Dolphin
How are you feeling today? I am very thankful that you reached out for support and told your story. I am posting this mainly for mental support, I hope you are feeling better today!
I am no stranger to mental breakdowns so I want you to know that it is completely normal to have one, or multiple; I see it as a way for your body to communicate to you that you are tired and you need a well deserved break.
From what I have read, I understand that you feel like you are losing your old connection to your friend, is that right? Unfortunately, these things happens to everyone. We all change, and sometimes, changes means that we no longer have the same connection. I know it is a hard time, and I am sorry that you have to go through this. However, it is important to look at the bright side! I hope that with your new job, you can make new friends and meaningful connections.
On the topic of your new job, would you like to tell me more about it? What is your postion? How do you like it so far? No pressure of answering if you are not comfortable to do so! And about your manager, if it makes you feel unsettled some how, please consider addressing this to your manager. A workplace should be a safe space for you so don't feel afraid to make some effort to ensure that it stays a healthly space.
Lastly, I am very proud of you for taking charge of your health! Trying to discover what is causing your mood change and potentially having a better understand about yourself and your body is something that everyone should aim for, so hats off to you 👏.
If you need any reccomendations for some self-care methods, please head over to our thread I practiced self care by... for some reccomendations for your fellow peers 🙂
Take care of your self! And I hope to hear from you soon.
Hey @Almond_Platypus
I'm doing ok today. I got to sleep in a bit. I still didn't get heaps of sleep but I felt more rested than usual.
Yeah, I still get to talk to him but not heaps. I did today which was nice. Not the level our conversations used to be, but it was still really good.
I'm working at a bakery, but just at the counter. It's quite good, but the people I'm working with have completely different life values as I do. It doesn't really bother me, cause I think he's just trying to be nice. But I don't know. It just seems a bit weird.
Thanks. I've seen a few of the replies on that thread, but maybe I'll read through it again for some ideas.
Thank you for your post 🙂
It’s really amazing to see you taking steps towards your wellbeing and coming onto the forums, and I just wanted to commend you on your strength and bravery when speaking out.
From what I have read it sounds like there’s quite a bit going on for you in your life currently, and that can always be overwhelming. Taking the time to reach out when there’s a lot going on is never easy and I can see that you care deeply about your wellbeing I wanted to commend you on that 🙂
I wanted to ask around self-care and what that may look like for you? Self-care can be a range of many different things from reading to writing, to watching your favourite show. I’d love to know what that may look like for you.
Again, thank you for your post, I’m sure many community members may be able to relate to somethings you are going through. I also wanted to let you know that we are sending an email your way so please be on the lookout for that.
Hope to hear from you soon 🙂
@Zig_RO I've just been doing some writing and reading, keeping busy. I did put on my favorite scented candle for a bit too
