Bullying: TW

Just gotta say it, we need to do a lot more and a lot better at dealing with bullying and supporting young people.

Unfortunately a familiar scenario for Brisbane this week,

Spoiler
following relentless bullying Ella (12 years old, year 7) took her life

. Yet another school did the bare minimum after portraying her as the bully. Yet her classmates continued despite their suspensions.

Make sure we check in with our friends and always show respect and kindness as you never know what others are going through. Respect costs nothing and can mean a world to someone. 💛

There is a girl at my school who gang bullies me with her friends. She got suspended partly for it and for some reason kept persisting.

Hey @visions_9374 thanks for reaching out about the bullying that's been happening at school. I can see you've shared similar experiences of being bullied with the community in the past, and it sounds like this has been going on for some time, which must be so tough. I just want to acknowledge that you've shown a lot of resilience and strength in coping with this for so long. It really sucks and is absolutely not okay that this girl and her friends have continued to bully you. It sounds like the school are aware of what's happening as this girl has been suspended. Are you receiving support from the school or your psychologist at the moment? There is also Kids Helpline if you're wanting to chat with someone one-on-one about what's happening in the meantime

I just wanted to let you know as well that I've edited your post slightly in alignment with our community guidelines and we'll be sending you an email shortly to check in

Hey @Gxhst

I completely agree. Bullying is never acceptable and yet schools seem to only superficially deal with it. Too many children have lost their lives. Hopefully more supports will be created for young people.

Reminding people that they are loved and care for is so important. It can hard to remember your worth when people are tearing you down.

Hey there @Gxhst

Bullying can have a profound effect on people. I think it's important to be kind and respect everybody, because you have no idea what they're going through or what they could do, as you've said.

This sounds like a very important issue to you (as it is very important). I'm wondering how this is sitting with you at the moment, and how you're taking care of yourself having come upon this news? 💜

Hi @Gxhst

Thank you for highlighting this very important issue of bullying and how checking in, respect and kindness can go a long way.

Bullying doesn’t just negatively impact the person being bullied, but can also cause harm to the person doing the bullying and any witnesses to the bullying. These resources might be handy when figuring out how to navigate these situations; being called a bully, about bullying.

In the face of heavy news, I wondered if you’ve been able to look after yourself and talk to someone you trust about how you’re feeling? I encourage you to keep connected with the community and wanted to share some resources to help with dealing with bad news. If you’d like, you can also connect with a peer worker for some 1:1 support with PeerChat. There will be an email from us coming your way so keep an eye out for it!

This is a really important post @Gxhst

Words and actions from bullies can scar us forever. It's so devestating that beautiful, amazing people are believing they are less than due to these bullies. For anyone who is reading this, I want you to know that you are loved, you are worthy, and you deserve to be treated with respect.

and exactly like you have mentioned, it is so important to check in with others and be kind always ❤️ the online community is always here for a chat 🙂

Welcome back!
