Not Feeling Safe

So I didn't expect this to happen but my upcoming exams have just so happened to ruined my appetite. Usually, I love going out to eat Sunday lunch after tutor but this time not so much, it anticipates to be a really cold and windy day which makes it unsafe as is, and to not have my parents give me the option to get picked up makes it worse. Oh great now I have to go out against my will in this shitty weather, I also have to help out with dinner as my parents won't be home so it feels like they're literally abandoning me.

I just want to get home and grind for 2 exams all afternoon, is that really too much to ask for?

Hello@yeah_it_tahtperson I am sorry to hear that you are feeling unsafe. It sounds like things are a bit upsetting for you at the moment, as the weather is rough and you are having to go out in it. It sounds like exams are also a bit tough on you as well as you don’t have much of an appetite. Do you think this might be because of anxiety or stress from the exams?

You mentioned that your parents won’t be home later, can I ask why that is and if that means you will be home alone? You also spoke about not feeling safe , is there anything or anyone in particular making you feel this way?

Hello,

Yes I think its definitely influenced by exam stress, and that's no good.

they won't be home for the rest of the day due to work, and then tonight they have to go to a dinner party. I'm not home alone though as my sister will be home too (hopefully), it just means I'll probably have to help with dinner prep.

Hey @yeah_it_tahtperson , it sucks that you think stress from your exams has been impacting you. Are you nearly done with your exams 😄? Glad to hear that you won't be home alone tonight, although having to help prepare dinner is a bummer. Hopefully you'll be having something yummy though!

If you are feeling upset or distressed about what has been going on, there are some services like Kids Helpline or Headspace that you could use to talk with a counsellor. They have phone and chat options that you could use to talk with a counsellor about how you have been feeling lately and potentially discuss some of the exam stress if you'd like! I'm not sure if you have used them before, but you might find them to be helpful if you are looking for some extra support. If you at all feel unsafe or at risk this evening, please do call 000 for support 💙.

Hey @yeah_it_tahtperson

I am sorry to hear that you are not doing so well today. Exams can be extremely stressful and having no appetite can only make it worst I imagine. The weather has been cold and windy lately which can definitely cause more stress especially as you mention that you have to find your own way home from tutor?
You also mentioned that you have to go out again against your wil, is this something your parents are choosing for you to do that must do? If so, that can be really frustrating especially as you are concerned with exams and would rather be spending your time on that. It is definitely not too much to ask for to be able to study for your exams!
It seems as if you leaving the house again is out of your control? Sometimes in these situations you can look at what is in and out of your control, and focus on what is in your control. So maybe if you have an hour is so before you have to help out with dinner, and a hour or so after dinner, you could focus those hours that are in your control to do what you need to do, maybe exam prep?

Would you consider talking to your parents about how your feeling towards your exams and the stress that is coming with it?

I will also link a post here on coping with exam stress that may be helpful!

Thank you for sharing today, we are always here for you 🧡

Hello,

Yes I do know how to get home from tutor very easily, however, on a tight schedule (bus only comes once an hour).

Normally, my parents offer to pick me up home from tutor, however, I usually decline. This is ironically the one time I wish I had the option as it would maximise my time to study. My parents won't be home for the rest of the day, so I can't vent to them but I'll try to do whats under my control.

please send any hyperlinks to any exam stress coping articles.

thank you

A bus every hour, that sounds extremely inconvience, especially in this weather! Would you feel comfortable talking to your parents about how your feeling another time when they are home?

This is the link here for an article on coping with exam stress.

and other one here on ways to reduce exam stress
